Kikstart.... bloomin' brilliant! I had tons of fun with this on my Commodore 64; me and a pal got pretty decent at it and we used to race over the courses (split-screen) neck-and-neck!

I preferred Kikstart I to II. It felt a bit "cleaner" and was simpler to pick up; the second version looked better and had that good course designer, but we never clicked with it as much as the first title. A cracking series, though, and coded by the talented Shaun Southern who created many other 8-bit classics for Mastertronic like POD (Proof of Destruction), Formula 1 Simulator and Hero of the Golden Talisman.

...oh, and I'd recommend trying out the Commodore 16 version of Kikstart, too. It's totally different to the other versions; you're still on a motorbike driving left-to-right, but you're avoiding obstacles and collecting balloons. It sounds odd but it's great fun and plays very well; an interesting change from the more well-known versions.

Bloody loved Kikstart 2 on the Speccy. I was absolutely terrible at it mind, but kept coming back to it.

It was possibly one of my most played games, I really really enjoyed it.

I strongly recommend Donut Dodo to anyone who loved Chuckie Egg. I've got it on Evercade but it's available on other systems too (£4 on Switch, £6 on Steam). Really captures the same spirit, and looks retro spectacular, while having immensely compelling gameplay (collecting the donuts in flashing sequence for maximum combo hugely increases the challenge).

This is something I keep thinking about getting for my Switch to be honest.

I was not sure if to post this in here or not as its not Home Micro based but it is about how gaming was for me in my early years and I really am trying to get a UK type perspective out there a bit more instead of running with the American Narrative.
