As bad as the name is, and her parents should be mercilessly mocked for choosing it, it's no worse than a lot of names people have had over the centuries...

Humiliation Hynde
Fly-debate
NoMerit Vynall
Sorry-for-sin
Jesus-Christ-came-into-the-world-to-save
Fly-fornication
Fight-the-good-fight-of-faith

The only difference between those and abcde is that those are words people understand, and abcde is what the parents came up with on crack while eating alphabet soup.

I prefer using names from classic literature. That’s why my son is called Great, just like Great Expectations.

One of my (very) distant relatives decided to call one of their kids Harrywyatt, it'd be alright if they had a hyphen in there or was two separate names but as it is, it just sounds ridiculous.

And one of my cousins (the one I punched when we were kids) called his sprog the equal stupid sounding Daisy-boo.

However, there is something to be said for protecting children from their strawberry floating idiot parents. And also it regulates varieties on how to spell basic names. The idea that a name should be unique is so dumb to me.

I appreciate this but I still sort of like the idea of naming children something unique and creative rather than recycling the same names we have used for centuries. We would not have the names we have now if someone had not thought them up to begin with.

Someone my gf knows named their kid Daenerys :fp:. In say.. 20 years when nobody gives a gooseberry fool about Game of Thrones that's going to be so cringeworthy.

I believe in Germany they have restrictions on names, such as not being able to use a brand in the name...and obviously not use a certain somebodies name.

I do think it's quite selfish at times what parents call their kids. I don't think there's much wrong with a particularly unique name, but some certainly are idiotic and are purely for attention.

I think Jamie Olivers choices in baby names are pretty horrendous. His latest one is Buddy Bear. :dread:

I'm ok with naming kids after characters, Daenerys doesn't sound too out there. A lot of fantasy names have roots in real names anyway, so it doubling back makes sense. It's when you start going for brand names, or names that are clearly derived from words rather than names that there's an issue. Like, sure, you can call your kid Anakin, it's dumb but it works as a name.

Nah, it's already cringeworthy

At least be somewhat sensible and give the kid a real first name, save the "unique" names for middle names.

To be fair he does have his wife banging out another kid every month or two so he is going run out of names and need to start getting inventive.

The NFL is a goldmine for names. JuJu Smith-Schuster, Captain Munnerlin, Adoree' Jackson, Takkarist McKinley. I also like that theres a Jordan Cameron and a Cameron Jordan in the league.

Motorsport has been home to some quality names over the years, such as the late NASCAR driver Dick Trickle.
