I'd prefer the trophy element of trophies, if they ever actually get around to implementing it.

Overall they're much of a muchness to me, both can extend a game by making you try new/additional things etc..

I guess I prefer the whole gamerscore thing to the way trophies work overall and i guess achievements have the edge as they're in every game unlike trophies which seem to be taking a while to take off outside of 1st party releases.

Is it just me or have certain people lost the ability to write in English as though it was their first language on here recently?

As I spend too long playing games, I like to combine the two. I call it "atrophy".

Not really a fan of the gamerscore but I do like the idea of achievements/trophies. I think once Home has launched and you have full 3D Trophies then I would prefer those but here and now achievements do things better.

Add a poll.

I don't even know what trophies are, so I'm going with Achievements, 'cause I genuinely think they (for the most part) add some incentive to a game or some additional reason for playing.

If they ever become as widely integrated as achievements and they get a display place in Home then trophies will win hands down.

Trophies, because I don't own a PS3 and therefore am not bothered by them.

Ah but what exactly do you mean when you say that?

Do you mean you aren't a fan of mindlessly farming achievements for gamerscore, or the whole idea of gamerscore.

The fact that every retail game has 1000 Gamerscore points, gives you the opportunity to make an immediate comparison with people on your friends list that have played that game as well as giving you an idea of how far you are through the developers idea of completing the game and something to shoot for in order to do so if you want to.

I agree gamerscore for gamerscores sake is pointless, but as a concept overall it really is pretty damn amazing.

Neither. I hate the entire concept of them both, and think they're too often used as a lazy alternative to engaging gameplay to keep people playing.

Like I said the idea behind achievements is amazing but gamerscore is pretty shallow. I think that if you take achievements and add in a 3D representation of a trophy showing off what you have achieved is much better than numbers.

From the PSN topic...

cooldawn wrote:Hugo you do realise they fundamentally have the same core structure and do the same thing, right? One has useless trophies and the other is a worthless numerical accumulator.

No actually, you are getting Achievements mixed up with Gamerscore there.

I'd agree in principle that Trophies have the same core structure as Achievements (though like I said they are clearly worse at the moment at least), but there is no equivalent to Gamerscore in the PS3 experience.

Thats a huge loss, whether you like what gamerscore has lead to on 360 or not (see earlier post).

Totally.

They both appear on the same system. The both give you points which add to an overall score, and they are both integrated with every game on their system.

Are you insane? There's a very clear equivalent on everybody's profile.

But you can't compare a set of 3D representations of a Trophies to another set of them in the same way you can a simple number. The number might seem more shallow, but its perfectly suited to that role where an object isnt.

Also like I said it doesn't provide any of the other features a gamerscore does.

A 3D representation of something is no more than the thing it represents...its irrelevant, in exactly the same way people complain Gamerscore is actually.

Actually, you've Experience Points on the PSN too. Which is a constantly increasing score, based on the amount of trophies you get.
