In case anybody can spare a little, or wants to offset buying ActiBlizz games.

Poor Lucio, not quite as ethnic as he could be.

Blizzard. What are the ethnicity rankings, Blizzard? Where does the literal ape fit in your ethnicity rankings, Blizzard?

This is the 'virtue signalling' people should really be complaining about.

I think a team reflecting and internally reporting on the diversity of the characters in their entertainment product is probably good, but trying to put numbers on it and plot it as a graph is where it all goes wrong - you really need, like, thought and words to describe these nuanced social issues, not percentiles from a statistics package. I'm not really offended by it, I'm sure it was well-intentioned, but I do think it misses the point and is a bit baffling and cringe.

I know that looks bad on the face of it and like they're just ticking boxes meet diversity criticisms rather than genuinely trying to add it...but one aspect of the tool did strike me as potentially useful in a non-cynical way:
During this process, the tool can also uncover unconscious bias, such as why certain traits are seen as “male” vs. “female,” or why characters from certain ethnic backgrounds are given similar personalities or behaviors.

Maybe. I don't know.

The whole thing feels weird and wrong though I agree.

The graph offends me because it doesn't include the units

That graph :fp:

Measures how far characters are away from the "norm" and ranks the races. Which group is the Master-Race? :datass:

It's not impossible to put some metrics on aspects of diversity and some tool to present those isn't an idea without merit if it's being used to do things like make visible subconscious bias. I think in that case you should be clear with what you are presenting and why, which that graph fails to do due to its lack of context, which is why it feels awkward and cringe (and potentially even malicious) because people are free to imagine the context.

Ravensoft won their unionisation vote. Right off the back of US labour officials finding that ActiBlizz illegally threatened employees.

All in a good day for ol' Bobert.

It sure is great news :toot: . I'm surprised at the voting, though; as well as the three workers who voted against there being a union ( :o ), two other votes were spoiled ( :? ) and four workers didn't vote ( :o ). Nine out of the twenty-eight workers didn't actually vote for there to be a union ( ).

That's America for you. Not everybody is going to be swayed when they've had years of being told that unions are evil by people with more reach.

A two thirds majority is pretty good no matter which way you cut it.

It sure is scary that folk have been persuaded that unions are "a bad thing" and that wealthier people are telling them this.

Ho-hum. For now, I'll join you, Balla, in celebrating this victory for the Raven QA team :toot: .

It certainly is a good thing that the union can be recognised. To me, though. It seems incredible that almost a third of the workers there didn't support this.

I'd be surprised if a third of the people I work with are even in a union to be honest.
