Adblockers are not allowed on YouTube

Just seen this today and closed it without really reading what it was. But the wording got me curious. Not allowed, eh? Well apparently some peoples' Google accounts are getting banned should they use an ad blocker too many times on YouTube. No idea to tell if this is true, some people have claimed this has happened to them, but who knows what's Google/AI anymore these days. It's all clearly some massive conspiracy.

Thoughts, GRcade? How much money will you be giving to YouTube today for their generous Premium service?

Not a strawberry floating penny. Ads and marketing have ruined the Internet and I do as much as I can to avoid them.

strawberry float off Google.

I won't pay for YouTube and I won't watch their ads either. If they ban me, they ban me.

But if you get banned you won't be able to watch YouTubers react to other YouTubers who are reacting to anime!? D:

Don’t blame them for not wanting to accommodate freeloading leeches.

The ads aren't even particularly intrustive, i've not used adblockers on there for many years.

Also, i watch ads on other folk's videos, and i hope they do the same with mine.

Adverts can strawberry float right off. If i can't skip it, your video gets closed.

If you watch videos whilst signed out of Google and with a VPN, they won’t know who you are.

You could also use a downloader website if you so wish.

Watching YouTube on a TV set has become particularly egregious with the commercial interruptions however. When they’re not even placed properly (i.e where there’s supposed to be a break) is even worse.

I never sign in to watch Youtube and haven't had any issues with adblock (yet) and if I do I'll just start using a VPN.

I would hate to see what you would consider intrusive

This... might just... convince me... to subscribe...

to Nebula.

Youtube watching will be minimized and done via hacky workarounds until ad blockers find a way around this or Youtube stops being silly.

I tried watching a 30 minute video the other day after turning my adblocker off. In a 10 minute period I got 3 sets of unskippable ads. Thankfully after that it allowed me to turn on ublock again and I haven't had that warning since. :slol:

I'm the exact same and have never felt the need to even consider strawberry floating around with adblockers for anything. Some folk seem to get really pissy about seconds-long ads meant to support the creators they enjoy watching and the service as a whole.

Fortunately ad blockers aren't on YouTube, they're on my browser. The ability for the browser to display (or not display) the content I request in the way I choose is a foundational principle of the web, not to mention an integral security and privacy feature.

Google are one of the biggest corporations in the world with a near enough monopoly on online videos and who exploit independent creators while using them as a shield against criticism, any sympathy for them is woefully misplaced.

That's before pointing out how people who use ad blockers are generally a terrible audience to sell ad impressions against so enforcing a policy like this only reduces the value of Google's ads.

I guess 3 lots of 30 second unskippable ads can be measured in "seconds" if you want to play it down, yeah.

I haven't had any issues on YouTube using uBlock as of yet, but I also heard that if you VPN to Russia then YT can't push ads through due to your perceived location so that might be a play if they do find a workaround for it.
