Adding Politics and NSFW tags, and the option to hide those threads

  • The Committee of Action is an apparatus of struggle.
  • There is no sense in guessing beforehand precisely what strata of the toilers will be attracted to the creation of Committees of Action: the lines of demarcation in the struggling masses will be established during the struggle itself.
  • Real mass elections of the Committees of Action would automatically eject the bourgeois middlemen from the ranks of the People’s Front and thus blow to smithereens the criminal policy dictated by Moscow.

Ha!

As you know, my personal preference would be for no NSFW content on GRcade at all. I was overruled on this when I was more involved in being a mod/admin, so part of the motivation of adding this for me would be so I can just turn it off and pretend it's not here.

It'll be someone else's problem to define what can and can't be posted in those threads, thankfully.

I only hope he uses his power for good.

I think a 'Politics' tag would be okay, at least in 'Stuff', but unless I'm misunderstanding, we could do with a 'Games' equivalent as well. It's tedious having threads on games derailed by the same few users who clearly want to critique the game in a different way and talk about more than just is this game good / fun. We could almost do with having a 'normal' thread for a game, and then maybe some kind of discussion tag (and threadd) for more in-depth chat about it. Don't know exactly if it needs two separate threads, just thinking out loud really.

I think as a wider point though people just need to get better at taking arguments to PM rather than derailing threads, or just choosing to not engage. There are plenty of topics that I choose not to get involved with, just because I know that I'm going to disagree with certain people and it'll end in a pointless argument that I don't have the time or inclination for.
We have certain users who have to get their view across, and have to be right, and I've no desire to engage with them, so I choose not to.

It's a good thing that the politics of a game has absolutely no impact on if it is good or enjoyable.

I don't really pay mind to the political leanings of games tbh. Like I guess Bowser is a Tory, but who knows, ya know?

I agree with the tags idea. This is my view and I believe I have gotten it across.

I think that's a little disingenuous. There are issues that are featured within a game's content, and then there are issues surrounding a game, and they don't necessarily cross over. It's possible to play Red Dead Redemption 2 without being aware of the working conditions at the studio for example, and outside of wondering how much of the game's content was only possible because of crunch, that discussion and discussion of the gameplay are separate. That's not always the case of course, but it can be.
