I really liked the second one, where all the different characters had special abilities. I wonder if this will have online play?

One of the games had link cable stuff right?

That's awesome.

I've always preferred this series to Fire Emblem because it's faster paced and cuts all the fluff

So happy to see Advance Wars back, been waiting years for a new one. I've played 1, 2, Dual Strike and Dark Conflict. I think Dark Conflict is probably the best gameplay-wise. By the time Dual Strike came around, things had become a bit cluttered... so they stripped everything back and rebuilt it from the ground up. I've played through it a few times, I just love how balanced and fine-tuned the gameplay is.

Everything about the look/art style, tone and character design is much better in the versions before Dark Conflict, though. Really glad to see Andy and Co. back!

Wasn’t Dual Strike pretty much AW 1 & 2 anyway? Did it have much extra over those?

A higher difficulty level (reportedly) and a bunch of goth villains.

Was Dual Strike the brown one? A very post apocalyptic setting? I really enjoyed that one but the bright colours of the originals are so much more appealing.

No that's Dark Conflict/Days of Ruin. Good game. Hard as balls.

Ah yes, I remember possibly having to use a guide for the final mission.

I remember it being a bit overloaded with unit types and the battles revolving around unleashing dual strikes, rather than tactical play (you could deploy 2 COs at the same time and combine their powers for a special strike). Seemed a bit messy, but maybe that's just me. Great soundtrack, though.

My personal favourites are Advance Wars 1 and Dark Conflict, I just adore them.

Right, I think a lot of people might have skipped Dark Conflict because its look, but the gameplay is top-notch. I reckon this new Switch one will be just as good, but with the nice art style of the original. A match made in heaven!

Dual Strike is great but it definitely doesn't make the first two games redundant at all. For one they all have unique a story progression and narrative style.

In the first AW you are mainly choosing between the 3 Orange Star COs throughout the game and your choices and how you do in certain maps actually affects the route you take through the game.

In AW2 you switch perspectives between each of the countries throughout the story and to an extent can choose the order of missions you do.

Also the gameplay in Dual Strike is a bit different. It's good but it's a lot more gimmicky. There are some dual-screen shenanigans, some crazy CO powers and additions to the unit roster that are a bit extraneous (but fun). And on top of regular and super CO powers there's the dual strike as well, which is a bit over the top.

I think Dual Strike is worse because of that extra gimmickiness. It's less pure strategy imo. I would often play the games with CO powers turned off!

I completely forgot that was coming. I hope it doesn't get lost in what is a fairly packed release schedule over the next few months.

Nintendo having really been focusing on it much at at either.

I'm not sold on the art style, might make this a rental.

Was I the only one that liked Days of Ruin? :shifty:

That box art looks real great. I'll definitely be getting this for the map-making opportunities. That's all I ever really did with Dual Strike, and even the original on the 3DS. Might even consider giving the stories a go for once.
