I absolutely love this game but the character models are annoying at times - some of them look really similar to others.

After finishing the main game of 1, I'm loving the challenge difficulty. Really is a huge step up.

Any tips for the War Room maps where the CPU starts with much more cities than you? I find they just build their army up too quickly and I'm overwhelmed before I can get going.

I haven't done much of the war room this time round yet, but what could work depending on map layout is going a CO like Max and spamming out tanks to gain some ground, then go in with a couple of mech+APC combos to take buildings.

Is there one in particular causing trouble? I could give it a shot later today.

Yeah the tactic with Max got me an A Class on Spann Island but you start in the same position as CPU on that one resource wise.

Ridge Island was one I had this issue with. And Twin Isle.

Had a quick run through on Ridge when I really should have been working.

Managed to get an A with 97 speed and 100 power; just technique let me down. By round 7 you should be looking to have control of all properties your side of the mountains (maybe bar one), and have pushed back all Grit's units to their side. To do that I spammed infantry, one APC, and tanks.

At this point you have almost the same amount of buildings as him.

The next few rounds I just continued spamming tanks as Grit destroys them as fast as you can build, due to his artillery units on the other side of the mountains. The next 5 or 6 rounds are painful attritional gains, but with a couple of Max's powers you can get enough of a foothold on his side. Once that happens it's pretty plain sailing.

I might go back to try get an S rank. Think all I'll need to do is spam infantry when I realise the tide has turned, to get a lower % of destroyed units.

Thanks! This makes sense, initially I tried with Andy and I really don't think his powers were the best choice for that stage.

I'll give this a go tonight and let you know how I'll get on :D

Aye let me know!

Defo one where aggression and speed are the priorities, which Max fits well for. Eagle could also be good for it. Need to push constantly otherwise Grit just picks you off with his ridiculous range eh.

Tanks were the answer! My first effort I started well but then tried to bring in some artillery in the mid battle which didn't work at all. We were in stalemate for awhile and i decided to mix it up to get the edge and just overwhelmed me. The artilleries are just too slow and cumbersome for that map.

So I tried again, and just went all in on tanks-didnt bother with mediums, just the small ones and thanks to their manoeuvrability and Max's aggressive powers I eventually got enough of his pieces to push him back.

Think I had a similar score to you-97 on speed, 100 on power and 65 on technique giving me an A class overall. Happy with that! :toot:

It's funny, the map seemed impossible at first but when you "crack" it really seems quite simple. The game is masterfully designed in that sense. And also one thing I don't think I appreciated is there really isn't a one size fits all approach, especially in the War Room maps. You have to really consider your strategy.

Thanks for your help :D

Finally beat the factory mission for Gold Comet in AW2. I went with Kanbei/Colin in the end, only got a B rank as I used Colin at the end to just wipe out the pipe with bombers, but it's somewhat frustrating given it was going so well on the bottom side of the map as Kanbei and then Adder built a bunch of battleships and strawberry floated me completely up lol

Good man, glad you managed it!

Aye it sounds we played almost identically in the end, I completely ignored all units bar infantry and regular tanks as well. Defo need their added movement range on that one.

Yeah it really is a brilliant game, deceptively simple.

I'm gonna keep working through the challenge difficulty story and maybe some more war rooms before Zelda comes out. Think I'll pick up the AW2 section after finishing the new Zelda.

Gotten my first loss in a campaign mission this evening, on mission 9 of AW1 challenge difficulty. God they really ramp it up on this.

Beat it on my third attempt but it looks as though it's just going to keep getting tougher. Failed mission 10 on my first go too.

Finally finished the first game. Got mostly a share of A and S ranks but for a few B and C ranks towards the end. I found the final two missions to be really long and drawn out which is where my ranks really suffered.

Great stuff and looking forward to playing the second one. I think I'll remember a lot more from the sequel than I did the original.

I like how the levels and missions in the second campaign are a bit more uniquely themed. It doesn't feel like there's a huge difference between the two games, obviously there are Super CO powers and Neotanks but I think that's it for gameplay unless things get added past mission 15? But I am enjoying the second campaign alot.

Anyone else playing/played through the AW1 challenge campaign? The difficulty is such an insane step up.

Failed mission 13 five or six times before I managed to sneak an APC out and get the HQ before Kanbei had time to react.

On GBA I just couldn't get an S on Land's End despite loads of attempts. Just did it first time.
