The come up after you smoke weed is pretty good for focus, in my experience

That's not feasible for everyone though, so a healthier of doing it is going for a run. Not sure what it is, but it helps me get into the right kind of mindset to get gooseberry fool done.

Funny you mention this. There have been a few studies that suggest that running helps or at least tunes up your brains Executive Functions

Executive functions include basic cognitive processes such as attentional control, cognitive inhibition, inhibitory control, working memory, and cognitive flexibility. Higher order executive functions require the simultaneous use of multiple basic executive functions and include planning and fluid intelligence (e.g., reasoning and problem solving).

In part by releasing endorphins into the brain and binding receptors which gives a sense of positivity.
The same is true for running and the endocannabinoid system, in which the receptors that get bound, are the same that cannabis targets.

Anecdotally, I have found exercising regularly has massively improved my ability to focus, and my state of mind in general - with running being a major part of that.

I still have moments where I get distracted, but I'm much, much better at sticking to tasks or being able to limit my distractions. For example, the other day I was trying to do some general tutorials on my day off, but wasn't quite in the mood (I find how difficult my week at work effects this quite a bit, and things are currently a bit crap) but I was able to alternate a chapter or two of learning with a quick race on Mario Kart for a few hours of the day - which helped keep me going as I knew a break was never too far away, but meant slowly but surely I made some progress even if it was less then if I were 'in the zone'.

I find running helpful if I have a problem or just can’t escape my own head. I am much clearer afterwards & can make better decisions.

GF gets quite offended by it and I don’t know why, sometimes I just like to go for a walk for similar reasons. Seems to run in the family though, my Dad suffered with depression and would sometimes just go on massive walks down main roads & such and they’d have to find him. I don’t really go to that extreme :P

Walking helps, but even then I tend to have a podcast running or be on my ‘phone or something. :?

try with out. just go out without your phone.

I used to run to music and thought I'd never be able to go out with listening to something to distract me. But the reverse is now true. I don't get the same 'mindfullness' experience running if i have an audio distraction.

My running goes to gooseberry fool without music. It kind of pushes you to keep going whereas without it I would probably just start listening to my muscles, which are constantly begging me for a rest after I've gone long enough.

I don't know if weed helps with the brain functions but I know running gives me the munchies.

For me I guess that is the point, without music I am more aware of what my body is doing and not just going back to autopilot

Really good podcast where they talk about why running is good for the brain.

I find it really charming that this thread struggles to stay at the top of the page. I mean its never going to be an 'always prominent' thread, its just amusing that even it struggles with attention

So I tried this on a couple of recent walks. It actually got me thinking about some productive stuff instead, but until that kicked in it was really boring. I guess we’ll see whether I can keep it up.

I probably couldn’t without music but lately I’ve tried podcasts running thought I would struggle but actually I maintain my speed & pay much more attention to the podcast.
