I'm sure I had the definitive Age of Empires II about 15 years ago

But this is the redefinitive version in re-HD.

Edit: This trailer is literally some strawberry floating paintings.

Didnt AoE2 come out on Steam a few years ago with HD/Workshop support though?

Never bought the remake but isn't that like... a 'definitive' edition?

I'd be rather surprised if this didn't eventually end up on consoles and I look forward to seeing how well they do with it.
I know it's unlikely but this could be a pretty amazing Switch game.

I would also like to know this, I'd be tempted to buy if it was decent as I frikkin loved AoE2 all those years ago.

The original came out in 1999, Jesus Christ we're all getting old :dread:

AoE2 has an HD edition on Steam - it has some slight changes to the original CD release (mostly bug-fixes and balance/unit changes)
there are also multiple expansions released since for the HD edition
the HD edition is definitely worth buying if you liked the original.
i have no idea what the 'definitive' edition will add - short of a complete engine overhaul it doesnt really need any other changes.

Got the HD version already to play with mates. Not really worth a repurchase (and us all getting W10 machines for the sole purpose of it)

Definitive Edition is AOE1. AOE2 was remastered.

This is a new game.

HELL YEAH! AOE was my jam growing up. I can't wait for this!

I can't read.

AOE2 Definitive Edition probably includes the new expansions they made for AOE2HD. Like a GOTY pack.

Oh hang on I missed that, so the current HD version that's on Steam is going to get a re-release as a Definitive edition?

Hmm, might hold out for that.

I hope they do a good job of this. I want old school resource gathering, building walls and defences etc, but with maybe some slightly more contemporary RTS combat.

Despite making one of my favourite games of all time in Company of Heroes, I don't have much faith in Relic these days. :(

I would have got excited if it wasn't for the abortion of Dawn of War 3.

No doubt they will turn this into a MOBA as well.

Wasn't Dawn of War III supposed to be a lot more like I than II? Base building etc. One of the things I heard a lot of people complaining about with DoW2 was the lack of base building.

There's a great Steam review of DoW3 that sums up their recent efforts nicely:

Relic has through many masterpieces developed a peculiar unique sub genre of RTS. We have seen amazing features in their past games, such as:

-the cover system
-morale system
-supression
-garrisonable buildings
-veterancy
-retreating
-fully destructible enviroment, including the ground
-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sync kills

and I'm sure I forgot some.

NONE OF THE ABOVE FEATURES ARE IN THIS GAME!!! NONE! 0! NULL!
