Hi All,

Last summer was hell and I don't want to go through that again. Has anyone got any recommendations for free standing air conditioning units? I can't put anything in my wall or at least not easily and I'm not sure if it'll break my lease so going for a free standing one is probably for the best!

You will need to vent it out of a window as I assume you can’t put a vent hole in the wall like a tumble dryer vent. If so you will need a window kit that can form a seal to make it as efficient as possible.

Otherwise it’s all about getting the right BTU rating for the size of room you are trying to cool.

Don’t be tempted to go for an evaporative cooling system. In my experience they just don’t work.

I bought my portable air-con over 15 years ago and it’s still going strong. £300 back then, for a no-brand unit from B&Q. As RotS says, make sure you get one adequately powerful for your room size. If it struggles, you’ll never get a proper cool room, so don’t skimp.

Best £300 I ever spent. If/when it fails, I’ll buy another immediately.

Also, mine is loud as hell, but maybe they’re quieter now. Just something to bear in mind if you have thin walls and intolerant neighbours.

I tend to hate when people come in and recommend something that the OP didn't ask for but I bought this https://www.meaco.com/products/meacofan-1056 last year based on the recommendation of someone on here. I forget who but it's literally the best fan I've ever had. It made lockdown in the summer actually quite pleasant, and I hate the heat.

Have you got any recommendations for like brands or anything like that? I had a fan last year and it did jack gooseberry fool.

I've been looking at these 2 recently. Don't know if they are any good but the reviews seem positive.

£250-£300 seems to be the sweet spot for price Vs Performance.

No, I've never found any particular brands to be better than other too be honest.

The two Albear has posted look good options. I was looking last week and at the moment a lot of places are more expensive that those two for the same specifications.
