Alan Wake 2 (XSX|S/PS5/Epic Games Store). Digital only. Gamespot 10.

Anything to do with games at all.

Digital only is disappointing, looked good though.

Horror games really getting back into fashion with Dead Space, Silent Hill, Alone in the Dark and this all making come backs

The FBI guy? It looked like Sam Lake whose likeness was used for Max Payne. He's also the game's director.

Genuinely thought it was Keanu Reeves.

+1

Also what happened to his scarf? :?

Anyway, I really liked the original game even though it was 60% filler, "Episode 2: Alan walks a long way".

I look forward to possibly playing this in the future.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Push Square wrote:An Alan Wake II FAQ states: "There are many reasons for this. For one, a large number have shifted to digital only. You can buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc drive and Microsoft’s Xbox Series S is a digital only console. It is not uncommon to release modern games as digital-only." In addition, skipping a physical launch has allowed Remedy to keep the price down at $59.99.

The Finnish team continues: "Finally, we did not want to ship a disc product and have it require a download for the game — we do not think this would make for a great experience either."

The first (bold) text got my goat; so the digital game will be "only' sixty quid? The second (bold) bit really got me, though... FFS! Yes! Then why not finish, test and release the game complete rather than relying on issuing patches?!? Wouldn't that be the "great experience" that you apparently seek to deliver?

Where did they say they are going to release the game incomplete and rely on issuing patches? :|

Imagine getting upset over not buying a physical disc in 2023.

Bet it'll come to disc eventually on PS5, even if it's as a collector's edition or something. Only a couple of weeks ago Trek to Yomi came out on disc as a budget release, and I think that's been available as a download-only title for a while now.

And just because ONE person (or company) does not love physical, there is plenty who still do. Give it some thought. We'd love to go at it again! Full circle and all.

Release moved to 27 October, to avoid clashing with other games. So it now releases two days after Alone in the Dark.

IGN's preview yesterday has me really excited for this. It sounds like proper sleuthing is required in some parts. I'm guessing it's price will sink like a stone, so I may well play AW Remastered (on PS+ Essential the other month) first and pick this up when it hits £35 or so.

Edit - just remembered it's digital only. That might keep it's price high for a bit longer than normal :(

Didn't realise it was an Epic exclusive. That's a bit gooseberry fool but at least it saves me money and I was never going to have time to play it this year anyway.

I only just realised this is digital only. How weird.

Still, not long to go now and I'm going for this rather thand Spiderman 2. Hoping for something as good as Control.

There’s going to be multiple significant DLC, but it will be free!

Confirmation came via Remedy Entertainment's creative director Sam Lake, who was at EGX this weekend, talking about the return of Alan Wake.

These free DLC expansions come on top of the two post-launch content drops Remedy detailed earlier this year, hinting there'll be plenty to do post-end game after we jump into Wake's new nightmare later this month on 27th October.

"We do have free DLCs drops coming, and they too are pretty significant," Lake told the crowd at EGX.

"I'm expecting us to be going more into detail pretty soon after the game is out, but all of that will be free for everyone who gets the game."
