I've dipped into them every now and then. The vocals really grate though, just sounds odd.

Yeah i can see how they could get annoying, even though i personally love them. You might want to check out their (guitarist/vocalist and bassist) previous band Mclusky, some of their later stuff is quite like FOTL and the vocals aren't quite as hard on the ears most of the time.

At first I definitely found the vocals annoying but as the albums gone on i've gotten used to them. I've heard far worse and hey at least he can actually sing  Giving it a second listen now. It should be right up my ally since I love a bit of prog but it hasn't really made much of an impression on me so far. I think its a grower.

Wiggles and Knoy, signups are open-ended but as it's after the initial deadline everyone else gets priority for choices. :)

S'alright, I'll innevitably choose something everyone'll hate anyway.

You mean Songs For The Deaf? It's a good idea to get the name right before recommending it. ;)

Did you ever get that tattoo?

I am booked in for a December the 12th appointment to get my third parent-disappointing-all-black-band-mark at the local needlehouse, yes. 8-)

I've liked Does It Offend You for a while, but DFA take that kind of style and do it ten times better.

Sebastien Grainger from DFA1979 is the vocalist on 'Let's Make Out' from DIOY,Y?'s album for anyone who didn't notice.

Listening to the Mars Volta atm. Really liking it actually!

One thing I would say though, is that...the songs are quite long, and some of them are very...instrumental, and are large portions with no vocals...and I really like the vocals, so it's a bit annoying. Otherwise, it's pretty good. o/

I listened to Mars Volta last night. I got to track 5 and it really wasnt working for me. The tracks felt like several songs on top of eachother, and the female vocals arent great.

Ill give it another crack tonight.

Well, I'm listening to it now, currently on Drunkship of Lanterns.

I'm a bit torn. The singing, really not liking it. Grates something terrible and just feels weary for me, seem to be sighing a lot at it. Only seems to get more annoying as well.

However, the instrumentals are brilliant. I'd be able to listen to it constantly if there wasn't any singing but unfortunately, that ain't going to happen. I do like how the tracks blend together as well, makes it feel like one big journey as opposed to breaking them up.

We'll see how I get on with the second half of it, but as it stands, it's both terrific and frustrating.

I listened to this last night. Still think it's a very good album, not as mad about it as i was a few years ago. Televators is still just magical though.

The vocals did start to grate a little for a couple of songs in the latter part of the album, not very nice to be relaxing in bed to.

EDIT: Gonna make my pick for album now, but i have no way to check if my album is freely available on streaming sites. Could someone please check these for me?

Super Extra Bonus Party -Super Extra Bonus Party (or Super Extra Bonus Party - Night Horses)
Adebisi Shank - This Is The Album Of A Band Called Adebisi Shank

If neither of those 2 are easily available i'll just go for Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over The Sea.
