But... but I'm weak...and they're just so darned pretty... I can't help staring toward the lights, the twinkly lights...

This what I see when I see a sexy Alienware:

I can't see the point in 'gaming laptops'. If you're that serious about gaming, you're not going to buy a product that can't be upgraded.

Well I can understand the lights. I did spend £55 on a Logitech G15 keyboard.

That was kind of a backlash against a horrible, horrible £5 keyboard though.

Just buy XP OEM and install it if you want, but it'll run like crap because it's a bloated OS. The point of the Eee is to get very simple tasks done quick. It's not a proper laptop. Plus I'd take the option of more SSD space anyday.

You could try other Linux distros such as Ubuntu, which are more like Windows.

I'm gonna get an Eee PC 901 I reckon.

Yes it's fast and easy to use for the most part and installing Windows on it wouldn't be advisable, it's just that Linux is gooseberry fool, especially for installing anything.

That didn't really answer my question. Why is Linux gooseberry fool? I'm not a bighead Linux fan - I've never used it - I want to know because I've been considering just keeping the Linux installation.

If you're talking about availability of software, that's certainly not the fault of open source software like Linux.

Saying "Linux" is wrong anyway; there are crap loads of Linux variations. You should try something else.

It's completely pointless 95% of the time but you can load apps on it - it has an SDK - like perormance monitors for checking FPS and CPU/RAM usage in games (useful for working out the best settings to use) but most practically it comes up with song information and lets me choose tracks / edit playlists in Winamp while playing a game. Stuff like that. It can show info from messenger as well.

I mainly bought the keyboard because it's one of the most durable and comfortable Logitech keyboards that doesn't come bundled with a mouse (those packs are about £70+), because I wanted to get a Razor mouse. I also wanted a wired keyboard because I can't be strawberry floated with batteries running out or lag. And the backlight is l33t. Matches my other metal/silver/black gear, e.g.:

I'd take a ThinkPad over any other laptop.
