I never really understood why JRJR went to DC in the first place but I wasn’t reading comics at the time so dunno if there was a falling out or whatever.

I’m in the minority, I think, of really liking his style. It’s very blocky and probably objectively a bit rubbish but it’s what I grew up on, as he must’ve been drawing Spider-Man for about ten or fifteen years on and off, across various titles.

Yeah, I got into Spider-Man when the clone saga was going on in the comics (best time to get into it  ) I don’t mind his stuff but his faces can be off at times. I think it’s also the fact he done so much Spider-Man over the years that it was always nice to get fresh artists.

Currently still going through a ton of titles on Marvel Unlimited, I started with the Marvel NOW! Era and last night I started reading the Infinity event. Really good stuff, I remember reading some of this years ago but I don’t think I actually finished it. I like that MU has event pages so you can read all these big stories in the correct order.

Other titles I am reading from this era are Uncanny X-Men and All New X-Men, I like the latter more than the former, it’s all building towards the Battle of the Atom story which I’ll get to after Infinity

Big order came in this week:

Department of Truth Volume 1
Incredible Hercules Complete Collection Volume 2
Man of Steel Volume 2
Criminal Deluxe Volume 3
X of Swords

The X of Swords trade is really big, my X-Men shelf is one trade away from saturation. I'm just finishing off the first volume of Tynion's Batman so I'm going to start with Department of Truth next I think.

Otto back as a villain. :(

Got issue 2 of Aliens but think I’m going to bin it off. The art is really crap and for like 20 pages I think there’s better stuff out there to spend money on.

Feels like this might be the resurrection of Otto’s corpse rather than the Superior Octopus who’s knocking about in San Francisco? I’ve enjoyed Nick Spencer’s run so far and it seems to be gearing up to be a big strawberry float you to One More Day/Brand New Day but he’s disregarded maybe just a little too much of what went before him.

Nah Superior Octopus has been done for a while. He went back to the Superior Spider-Man identity for a shortlived series then at the end of it made a deal with Mephisto (LOL) to return him to his original Octavius body without the memory of Spider-Man's identity.

Yeah the utter shitness of the reversal to the status quo felt like Christos Gage was making a satirical dig at Marvel.

I always feel like some things don't need to revert back the way. The Superior Spider-Man/Octopus was a massive improvement on a character who was becoming a bit stale after sixty years and AFAIK was universally well received by fans after the initial shock of the early run. Why piss all that away? It's been sixty years man, give some new villains time in the sun and let the old ones do something new.

Finished Hawkeye My Life as a Weapon this weekend, having been reading it on and off for a couple of months.

Liked it, the art is really good and distinctive and the characterisation of both Hawkeyes is really good and they come across as cool, down to earth, pleasant characters. The story I was so so on, it never really grabbed me and I found it difficult to follow a lot of the time. It doesn’t really seem to be about anything and I find comics quite hard to follow at the best of times. Think it’s just as much me as it is the writing.

Anyway, would definitely recommend it, would love to see some of it on film, shame the film version of Hawkeye is so vanilla compared to this version.

Disney+ have a Hawkeye series coming so I hope it borrow ideas from this series.

I kind of see what you mean about the story though, he buys the building away from gangsters and they give him grief but that’s about it? I like what I have read of it so far tho (I’m 11 issues in at the moment) and I love the art work also.

The Disney+ series looks like it's heavily influenced by it. Kate Bishop and Pizza Dog are both in it, and some villains from that run.

Coming to the end of Hickman’s Infinity event, really great story and some great action scenes but I’m a little confused, why were they all so sure the Builders were unstoppable until Thor ran his hammer through one of them? Was there a point where they were built up to be immortal or something?

From memory I don't think it's that they thought that the Builders were invincible but that Thor publicly murdering one was a rallying call that inspired the rest of the universe to fully unite. The builders whole thing is that they agreed to spare civilisations if they joined the builder cause. The actual number of builders was low.

Ahh that makes a bit more sense then, goes hand in hand with a number of worlds erecting Avenger monuments after the fact. Looking forward to seeing where the Inhuman stuff leads to

Looking through my Comixology collection I've just realised it's almost three years since Saga went on a hiatus, supposedly half way through telling its story. Is that actually going to be coming back any time soon?

It went on an "extended hiatus" after issue 54 I think because both Vaughn and Staples were feeling burnt out, and Vaughn was busy with the home stretch of Paper Girls. Almost a year after that last issue he said the whole thing is meant to run for 108 issues in total.

But it's been ages since he said that and I'm wondering if it's actually coming back at all.
