I first posted about this list I was working through last August and I finally finished it. 1488 issues read and it took me almost ten months to get through but there was some absolutely brilliant stuff in there.

I don't even remember much of it, but there's a lot of really good runs in there. Gonna take a break from Marvel for a little bit and then come back to all the post-Secret Wars stuff which I've not even touched yet.

In the meantime I've started reading Preacher which is great in a dark and miserable kind of way. Think I'm gonna work through that then read some DC stuff for a bit.

Joer wrote:I'm making a big effort to get into comics after buying a new tablet just for it. I've downloaded the Civil War story arc and have noticed it jumps between different characters at seemingly random issues. I had a quick look at the first one in the set and it had all kinds of characters in I wasn't expecting to see. Is there any kind of site that lists starting points for these characters and what ones I want to follow the main story arc's in an order? Is there any good site for finding comics by the way? I was looking for the ones recommended in the OP but couldn't find a good site for bundles or letting you search for title and author at the same time.

In terms of getting started it's hard to say where to begin.

If you want to start with an "Event" like Civil War, then the best bet is to get the core Issues (Civil War 1-7 in this case) to get the overall story and then see if any of the tie-ins interest you. For example Spider-Man has a good set of tie-in issues that directly deal with the events of the Civil War event. Bear in mind that including all the tie-ins, there's roughly 112 issues that comprise Civil War in it's entirety.

Alternatively pick a character, or group of characters that you're interested in and search for good starting points with them. The first run of books in the list I linked to above is for Black Panther and it's a great jumping off point for him. THIS is a good guide to starting out, and about a quarter of the way down lists good starting points for Spider-Man, Captain America, Ms Marvel, Daredevil and others.

Alternatively just ask here and someone will recommend something I'm sure.

Batman #51- I was down on the last issue but this finale to the five year Snyder/Capullo run is lovely. Interested to see where those new plots get resolved.

Been reading Hellboy and it's really fun, I think I prefer Hellblazer as a retelling of folk tales but the pacing and wit in Hellboy is fantastic. Loved how the tragic and serious origin retelling (Chained Coffin) was followed up with a cutaway gag.

Nice change of pace from Love and Rockets where I've got up to Human Diastrophism which is a dark as strawberry float story about serial killings and it's a fairly challenging read because it's basically a novel crammed into what were anthology comics. It's kinda hilarious just how impossible it'd be to pick up if you haven't read everything by Gilberto beforehand

a reader's letter printed in Love and Rockets #31 in December 1989 asks Hernandez: "Do you think you could develop a character whose life wasn't pure misfortune? Someone who didn't have a miserable, depressing life? Someone I could care for, but not pity?" Hernandez retorts: "None of my characters has had a 'miserable, depressing life'. None. And I don't do requests."

Gutted about Darwyn. He's my favourite active comic artist and I pretty much own everything he's put out. I met him at Kendal in October and he was lovely. His talk was really insightful as well.

God damn :(

New Frontier is my absolute favourite superhero comic and his Parker adaptations were really good.

Newb post:

So I've read through Hickmans run of F4 and FF after getting a recommendation of it...last year, I think. It was alright, but a lot isn't accessible to a newcomer, and it can be quite difficult to figure out what's actually going on and what's significant.

I've been looking to expand this reading list so I can have context for what is going on, and who people are, and found this: http://comicbooklibrarian.tumblr.com/po ... ding-list#

I also found this: https://www.scribd.com/doc/151317258/A- ... ic-Four-FF which was useful, but I found it after I already finished the run.

While it's cool there's a complex and sprawling story going on, it's a bit intimidating that to figure it all out I could probably need the assistance of a spreadsheet to read it in the right order.

But yeah, I guess I'm meant to start with Bendis Avengers stuff, so will be looking into that now.

I'm trying to avoid hearing what it is until I read the issue but the internet appears to be going mental.

Just looked up the solicitation:

It all begins here. Do not skip to the last page. Do not let a friend or message board ruin this comic for you. The future (and past) of the DC Universe starts here. Don't say we didn't warn you! THEY SAID IT: 'Rebirth is about focusing in on the core of the character and their respective universe,' says writer and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. 'It brings back what has been lost, the legacy of the characters, the love and the hope of the DCU!'

That's a very good lead. Bear, do you use these boxes yourself and if you have would it be possible for you to send a pic with comics in?

My favourite part is how they've made it really easy for fans of the book to avoid the big reveal by limiting their media briefings to small indie outfits like Time magazine.

DC Rebirth # 1-

I managed to avoid all the spoilers and I absolutely loved it. Loved it. Having started reading Johns' Flash and JSA runs in the last couple of months really made me appreciate this issue more I think. Wally's reunion with Barry

And then the Watchmen reveal. :datass:

God knows what this multiple Joker thing is though. Watch one of them be The Comedian.
