Anyone else buying these "Dawn of X" trades? I really like them. Instead of collecting the interlocking series in the Hickman era by series e.g. a trade paperback consisting of x-men 1-6, and another consisting of New Mutants 1-6, these give you the first issue of each of the six series, presented in reading order. A new one is released each fortnight. I've actually stopped reading them as they come out digitally, and I'm just buying them this way instead.

I'd pre-ordered the standard trades for each individual series but the Dawn of X trades do make a lot of sense considering how much cross-referencing is going on. Considering the first New Mutants trades was supposed to be out the other week and Amazon still haven't dispatched it, I might cancel all my orders and switch over.

Anyone recommend any comic book podcasts? Ones that don’t just focus on current stuff but maybe classic as well?

Downloading Marvel Pull List to see what that’s like

Kevin Smith's Youtube show maybe? I don't watch it though.

Yep I can confirm the Dawn of X trades are definitely the best way of reading the new X status quo. My copy of Volume 4 has disappeared somewhere in the postal system however.

Mine was never dispatched by Amazon. I think the comic delay has caught up to TPBs now. Amazon suggest August, but who knows.

Forbidden Planet is saying it's been shipped but right under that on my account it's saying the release date is May.

Amazon has relisted the second JMS Spider-Man omnibus as releasing Thursday. Pre-ordered last August at half the price they're charging now.

Something different: a really well put together essay on Bernard Krigstein, by Comic Tropes/Chris Piers...

Bernard Krigstein had a relatively short run in comic books in the 40s through the early 60s but his impact was tremendous. Art scholars and comic book aficionados have studied Krigstein's work, especially the comics he illustrated at EC Comics in the 50s. He had a philosophy that changed the way artists approached comic book storytelling. In this episode I talk about what comics were like before Krigstein's work and how his pages changed modern storytelling techniques. This includes a deep dive into his famous story Master Race from Impact #1.

I know I'm critiquing a clickbait youtube title, but to call him "The Most Influential Comic Book Artist" is to sell Jack Kirby very short.

I was distracted when watching the video the first time around, but I am pretty sure he argues his point on that in the video. He respects Kirby and has done a few videos concerning him, both directly and indirectly.

I've watched the first part of the video whilst working this morning. He does bring up Kirby's 40s work, but it's his National Comics stuff which is less like his usual stuff, particularly his timely comics/atlas comics work.

It's really just the youtube title that irked me, but it's the nature of the medium nowadays.

Turned up on Monday. Forbidden Planet have billed me this week for Volume 5 too, looks like FP charge once they've confirmed stock is being sent to them and then they reship on once it gets to their warehouse. Big thanks for the Dawn of X recommendation, whomever decided to collect the new X quo like that was a genius.

Yeah it's great isn't it? I've seen a lot of people saying they won't try it etc online, so I hope sales are good enough that they continue like this.

Amazon have listed it up to Volume 16 at least which concludes the tie-in to Empyre. I've noted none of the Dawn of X trades listed so far has collected Fantastic Four/X-Men.

COLLECTING: New Mutants (2019) 12, Wolverine (2020) 5, Giant-Size X-Men: Storm (2020) 1, Empyre: X-Men (2020) 4, Excalibur (2019) 12, X-Men (2019) 12

I think that's to do with which internal team at Marvel is deciding on that. FF/X-men comes under the FF division, not the X books division.

That might be it. I just checked on a preview and Hickman isn't listed in the credits like he is every other X book.
