I'm hating that the GOTY thread barely covers VR at all. Should we have our own one d'you think?

Astro Bot deserves more love!

I've never really understood this attitude.

I mean, who gives a strawberry float what you look like in the privacy of your own home?

I know, plus someone needs to tell these people that they look like a banana split holding a control pad wearing a headset playing cod too.

In most cases it boils down to "I can't afford it = it's gooseberry fool"

But yes, we should have a vr game of the year.

I think there's an element of that for some people.

But yeah I'll put together a brief VR Game of the Year Thread.

I've asked Celer to add a Best VR game category. We'll see what he says and I'll do a VR thread if he doesn't want to.

Didn't help that after an hour and a half of playing my arms were slightly tired at 1:30 in the morning.

Done a couple of hards with no mistakes now but can’t barely make it theough an extream

I mainly dislike VR as just like the Wii, its further increasing the physical demands of gaming upon the player - as a disabled gamer it saddens me to think that in the future when everyone is playing fully immersive VR in a Ready Player 1 style virtual world, people like myself will be left behind and excluded.

Whilst I don't think it will happen in the short-term, once VR becomes established I absolutely do believe there will be fantastic opportunities to make VR work for people with different disabilities -although I do understand that that there might not be a solution for everybody.

The headset can provide the immersion in a 3D world. A reduced set of movement & interaction commands could be used with an adapted controller for those who have minimal use of a hand or foot, or mouth or tongue control.

Voice control could also be used to input commands.

And for people who have no movement they may still be able to wear the VR headset and have a friend navigate a 3D environment so they can 'visit' virtual worlds.

For a person who has little control of head movement, in the distant future, there may even be able to add eye-tracking in the VR headset.

The accessibility features that Apple add to their phone demonstrate that technology is being used to help people with disabilities have more independence, and specifically the new Xbox adaptive controller which is for entertainment lead me to think that with time, once VR becomes established, companies will look to expand the reach of their VR products to as many people as possible.

I'd say that's in the mid-term future.

The distant future has to be about direct neural control. You would only have to be able to think about moving to move an avatar around a world in order to do so.

That first level is the one I'm currently trying to clear. Keep getting the odd miss that resets my multiplier and screws me over.

Based on your video I think I need to recalibrate the height actually. You don't seem to need to duck down as low as I do (Practically on my knees  ) so that might help.

Gonna play some more tonight I think.

Used the auto adjust for height but then added a further 5-10cm in the games settings which just got it right for me.

The distant future has to be about direct neural control. You would only have to be able to think about moving to move an avatar around a world in order to do so.

There are already several eye tracking products available, one of which I tried not that long ago and just couldn't get along with it, there's a distinct learning curve in co-ordinating minute eye movements with an onscreen cursor which is far more tricky than you expect it to be.

I imagine a direct neural interface would take quite a lot of training to use for gaming and I think a lot of people would really struggle to use it.

We're getting the latest version of Occulus Rift in the office here to show off potential clients our Engineering solutions for office blocks. We're going to hook it up to a 65" touch screen TV PC in board room.....so annoyed that'll be used by suits and left idle most of the time.

Business applications are always the most boring uses of exciting technology. :(
