Played a bit more of Blood and truth. And it’s still amazing.

Astro Bot and this is firmly in my top 20 PS4 games.

My psvr order had a packing slip inside which had a price breakdown for each item. Turns out the actual (and publicly unlisted) price for the mega pack was £160 :o

Finally got to try my PSVR today for a couple of hours.

Went through 3 pairs of headphones and the included shite ear buds wondering why the volume was so low, then realised there's a volume button on the underside of the headset :fp: :fp: :fp:

The headset feels a lot cheaper than the Vive (becuase it is) but i find it more comfortable and I think the screen itself is of a better quality, becuase I don't see the screen door effect on it nearly as much as the Vive.

The tracking though :dread: Its appalling compared to the Vive, really really gooseberry fool. I'm only using the controller at the moment but it's constantly wobbling and drifting off, plus the view seems to like to sit slightly to the left of centre no matter how much I try to centre it by holding options.

Tried the shark dive first. I've played a lot of VR already so I didnt get any wow factor from it, but I imagine if you've never experienced it that it would be amazing. Graphics were surprisingly good (and made me notice the screen quality).

I then tried astrobot. OH MY GOD :wub: :wub: :wub: So good. I've got 100% on the first world and had to force myself to turn it off. So bloody good.

Overall I'm really impressed. I think stand up stuff is going to be gooseberry fool going on the tracking of the headset and controller, but sit down stuff may end up being bought on here rather than pc for convenience.

I still can't get over how bad the tracking is on this. Playing astrobot the way forward is always either to the left or right, never straight ahead (I can tell it should be because of where the menus appear). Holding option to reset does nothing to reset this offset. On the Vive (for those who don't know) track is achieved by two permanent and fixed tracking devices in opposite corners of the room, and you tell the software the shape of that room during initial setup so it is fixed and never changes. You could turn the headset on upside down in a bag at the back of the room and when you take it out the position will be absolutely perfect. In a game, should it have your dead ahead off, a press to reset will be perfect. With ps vr though, it just decided what it thinks is forward and that's that. I've had to bring the camera half way across the room on a small table which I can then rotate a bit to do some pikey corrections and offset the discrepancy. Absolute rubbish and needs an overhaul for ps5, which is a shame because the headset itself is great.

Yep, Astrobot had the controller permanently skewed relative to its real position. The Demo that launched with PSVR had exactly the same problem. Its a real shame as it takes you out of the moment. And don't believe all the people telling you that you need to change your t shirt, bulbs in your house etc, its bollocks, it just doesn't work particularly well. But the library of games is magnificent so its absolutely worth it overall.

The skewed controlled happens to me sometimes (quite rarely, I seem to have everything set up ok for most of the time). I find if I hold it in one hand and give it a shake (like a small movement as if I'm about to boomerang it), it straightens it up.

Not ideal, but seems to work for me.

Another issue is that my PSVR only works properly from 'cold'. If the PS4 has been in standby mode, I get occasional sound and headset cut-outs (the social view on the TV is fine). Turning the whole lot off and on sorts it out. But it's consistently a problem after sleep mode.

I have tried sleep mode vs full power off mode. I honestly have not noticed a difference. There used to be, back soon after PSVR was released, but in the last 18 months or so i find either ways of powering down to give comparable results. There are so many other variables at play that i only do a full power down if i am experiencing technical issues at the time.
Another recommendation that many people make but i have found to be of no benefit is leaving the headset on a stable surface and turning it on and leaving it for 30s for the "gyros to calibrate". I prefer to just apply a liberal coating of snake oil.

The full reset is for the headset cutouts, which still seems to work for me - the only thing that resolved my controller alignment is the 'shake'. Have you tried this?

I have yes, it straightens the controller, than slowly drifts back to a jaunty angle again over about 30 seconds. It was nothing that stopped me finishing the game "and loving it), but it is an enduring memory of my experience of the game, and its a shame because the game itself is so fantastic, just let down by dated technology.

I still play and love my PSVR, which is why i am frustrated by the limitations. The catalogue of games is second to none.

That sounds like an issue with either the setup (which you can redo) or the camera position. I've not had that particular problem myself, but the system is always going to be sensitive to any slight changes or an off angle setup because of single camera position tracking the headset.

I'd imagine that if there is a PSVR2 it'll have inside out tracking to do away with the need for any external cameras at all.
