Oh nice, I'll give that a try.

I do like the SteamVR homespace Room though. I've only messed with the default one so far, but it looked like people can set up and host all kinds of custom ones. I saw one listed as a Super Mario 64 world which I regret not jumping into.

I have the holodeck as my environment 8-)

Hot dogs, horseshoes & hand grenades is a must if you like sandbox shooting as well as Pavlov for VR CS.

So I just set up ReVive and Purchased/Downloaded Vader Immortal, but I'm not sure if there's something I'm doing wrong.

The game took a while to launch, but once I got going it was super laggy. When I got to playing the game it would often hang and I'd just get the Steam VR "Waiting" icon.
Is this a common thing? Is there something I need to do to fix this? Or is it just that maybe my CPU/RAM isn't quite up to extra horsepower needed by ReVive?

Last night I accidentally 'ordered' the full Valve Index kit. I was curious so had a browse on the Steam store page and then clicked on the order button, expecting it to take me to another page that might indicate expected delivery date or something, I don't know. Nope, I immediately got the 'Thanks for your order! We'll contact you when your order is ready to ship to take payment'.

It feels rude to cancel now, so I might keep it and decide nearer the time.

Odd question but what does looking through the Index actually 'look' like? I had a go on what I think was a Rift or maybe a Vive a little under two years ago and I recall it seeming like I was looking through a set of binoculars. There was a prominent black 'void' surrounding my field of view. Is that still the case and if so, is it something you get used to?

Can't comment on the Index, but yeah my experience with VR is that you concentrate on the VR space and don't really notice what isn't there.

At least I think that's the case, can't really remember it ever feeling like looking through binoculars personally, but then its been a while and I've played lots and lots in VR since then.

I really wish so many VR games weren't made with the assumption/insistance that the player be standing up rather than sitting down. Any game with a "The item is on your belt" kind of approach basically requires that you either be standing or sitting on a stool rather than a chair.

Not sure why you'd spend the best part of a grand on VR kit to play it sat down, but yeah, some games just won't accommodate it easily. I tried playing Skyrim VR sat down, and the game thought I was sneaking constantly.

Developed in collaboration with Valve and Microsoft, the next gen HP VR headset delivers a more immersive, comfortable and compatible experience than the previous generation. It’s the new standard in VR.

Went to finish off Vader Immortal ep3, and I managed to smash my right hand touch controller into the wall with quite some force in the finale. :fp:

Thankfully everything seems to be working OK, although I think the plastic casing has been put slightly out of shape, and I think one of the triggers sounds different, although I'm not 100% sure. Fingers crossed.

I have to admit I've hit a few desks and walls in the last year with the Quest trying to give my self more space than I really have.

Most of the time the damage has been to my hands rather than the controllers though.

HP Reverb G2

Now if this is compatible with Xbox Series X...

In the videos the words ‘THE NEXT GENERATION’ and ‘NO COMPROMISES’ are shown. This seemingly hints at HP Reverb G2 being the first headset in a new generation of Windows MR (Microsoft’s PC VR platform which all HP VR headsets have used so far).

Windows MR headsets are already compatible with SteamVR through Microsoft’s own driver, available on Steam. So why is Valve involved in this collaboration?
Microsoft worked with Valve to make the first generation WMR headsets work on SteamVR. While the company tried to make its Windows Store the place for VR apps, it seems to have now shifted to endorsing Steam, even putting its own apps on Valve’s store.

Brightening the headset from the video appears to show nearfield off-ear speakers, very similar to what the Valve Index has. This should enable high quality, accurately positioned audio in VR.The image also shows what looks like two tracking cameras on the front. There may be extra cameras on the sides to allow for wide tracking volume, like on the design Samsung submitted to the Chinese patent office in January. If Samsung’s design becomes a product, it could be another entry in WMR’s new generation alongside Reverb G2.

This announcement hits just as Valve released its “flagship” VR game, Half-Life: Alyx, the first full entry in the series in over a decade. It’s designed to give a lot of VR fans exactly what they’ve been asking for; a full-length VR shooter with the same kind of production values you’d expect from a traditional videogame release. You can read more in our full review right here.

Valve knows that the majority of Alyx players won’t be using Index, both due to stock issues and the pricepoint of $1000. With the Reverb G2, the company may at very least be endorsing, or potentially even working on, a more accessible affordable alternative. Even if it doesn’t take on Facebook’s Oculus Rift S directly at $400, it could offer a middle ground for PC gamers looking for a balance of quality and price.

I tried recording some footage of Half Life Alyx earlier, but I've just got a blank green screen with audio. The Radeon overlay doesn't seem to work properly with steam VR, so when I tried to force recording from outside of the game, I suspect it's just recorded nothing visually.

Anyone got any tips? Radeon website is strawberry floating useless, it keeps directing me to resources to stream from the PC to the VR headset, and doesn't seem to include any information on recording footage from VR.

If it's windowed like mine is for some reason (it's lower than the desktop res), then it may be counting it as recording the desktop rather than the game, and it may have a setting to not allow that for privacy reasons. The geforce recorder had that, and it took me ages to figure out why when I switched to desktop, recording would just stop.

Yeah, I got that prompt, so turned on desktop recording, but the video was still just nothing. :|

Can we please have a poll in this topic to see how many people are still using VR?

I must admit I haven't used mine in a while but that's because I've just not been gaming much recently except for a few weeks of furious time on Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

I like how your sig content was within a few days of the release of probably the highest profile VR game released to date. Be interesting if we get an idea of its sale numbers.

Just tried out Skyrim VR on the Index and man, the controls are shockingly bad.

Like navigating and interacting with menus is an absolute chore. Navigating using the analogue sticks is massively over sensitive and for some reason the analogue sticks control both sliders and moving between menus in the character creator, so actually getting the settings you want is absolute pot luck.

And the icons in the menus once you're in game? Well...who knows what the strawberry float any of them mean half the time.

Also, squeeze the controller to crouch/enter stealth, even though there are face buttons that, so far at least, seem to be unused.

Tfw this is a copy paste from restera. Yikes.

I have it on psvr but I've not tried it. I've played it to death before so don't feel like playing it again really.

Apple to acquire NextVR for $100 million.

NextVR is a company that melds virtual reality with sports, music, and entertainment, offering VR experiences for watching live events on VR headsets from PlayStation, HTC, Oculus, Google, Microsoft, and other manufacturers.NextVR has established partnerships with the NBA, Wimbledon, Fox Sports, the WWE and more, according to the NextVR website. NextVR also has more than 40 patents, some of which are related to upscaling video streaming that may be of interest to Apple.

https://www.macrumors.com/2020/04/06/apple-reportedly-acquiring-next-vr/

I've always believed that VR would be part of the future of gaming, and with Apple getting on board this cements the notion that it's not a fad it is part of the future.
