I think I'll be leaving it boxed up til Christmas, but now trying to get an idea of what I need to get while the sale is on today.

I got Pistol Whip despite owning it on PSVR. I've not played it yet and it seems like a game where a lack of cables would be very handy. Superhot VR is the other one I'm tempted to rebuy, but I can leave that for another sale.

Beat Saber and I Expect You to Die will be getting bought once I'm using it, but no rush as they're not in this sale.

Walkabout Mini Golf and Tales from The Galaxy's Edge are the two I'm looking at right now. VR mini golf seems like it could be a nice chilled experience, and although Galaxy's Edge doesn't have amazing reviews... it's Star Wars. Arkham VR is still one of my favourite VR things just due to how much it made me feel like I was in that that world.

I know I should probably be getting HL: Alyx, but I feel like that is one I'll leave for another sale too. Not sure I'm ready for such a long experience in VR just yet.

Welcome aboard 8-) :toot:

You'll probably be able to buy all the Star Wars games for cheap on the May the 4th promotions, that's what I did.

So a Quest is completely standalone, but can be connected to a PC for Master Race shenanigans?

Yes. Though I believe you need to buy the link cable seperately for PC VR stuff and the official one is quite expensive. Though I think there are cheaper ones you can get.
Qikz has one I believe.

I got the Belkin one for about twenty quid or so. Works. Best feature over the official one is the extra fifty quid in your bank account.

You don't need a link cable, I use virtual desktop via WiFi to connect my Quest to my PC, and it works great for me, although I'll caveat that with my PC being wired to the router and using the Quest very close to the router.

There are other WiFi services as well, but the cable will always get you the best quality streamed image. There are reviews online of third party USB C 3 cables that work well if you don't want to fork out for the official Facebook one.

I think it should be wireless to PC out of the box now with Airlink but I've never got it to work...

Cool.

I'm still living in a wired VR world with my PSVR and Oculus Rift.

Quest is very tempting though. If San Andreas VR is any good I might pick one up at some point.

I grabbed a cheap third party link cable from Amazon that had decent reviews, as I definitely want to try some Assetto Corsa on it. They said the only disadvantage is you can’t really charge it when playing, which the official cable can, but it will send enough power to stop the headset losing charge when in use.

I also bought Virtual Desktop while it’s on sale but wasn’t sure how well it would work as my PC is wired up but in a room with terrible Wi-Fi, so I’d probably be trying to use the Quest in a different room.

I bought an Anker cable that works, but I much prefer wireless so just use Virtual Desktop.

Amazon Basics USB C cable for me, get about 2.7Gbps using the Link test in Oculus and never had a problem with it.

Edit: And done

Just seen this referral programme thing. Is that something that has to be used before the purchase, or could someone send me a referral link and then get the credit when I set it up?

Edit: Apparently it can work after purchase, as long as it's not been activated. If anyone wants to do it, I'll happily use someone's link (though I think it will make us be FB friends).

https://support.oculus.com/articles/orders-and-purchases/headsets-and-app-purchases/oculus-referrals/?locale=en_GB

If you have an Oculus Quest or Quest 2, you can invite a friend to purchase their own Quest 2 headset using the Oculus app. You must log in to Oculus using your Facebook account in order to send a referral link.
If your friend purchases a Quest 2, they will receive USD 30 in Oculus Store credit when they activate their new headset, and you will receive USD 30 in Oculus Store credit 30 days later.
To send a referral link:
1.
Open the Oculus Mobile app on your phone.
2.
Tap in the top right-hand corner.
3.
Tap Send next to one of your friends under Suggested referrals, or tap Search friends to choose a different friend. Any friends that you want to refer must be in your Messenger contacts.
4.
Your friend will receive a link to purchase Oculus Quest 2 via Messenger. Your friend will receive USD 30 in Oculus Store credit when they activate their new Quest 2, and you will receive USD 30 in Oculus Store credit 30 days later.

Played my first forty minutes or so of RE4. Initial thoughts: FPS mode is truly nauseating! Getting hounded by zombies is genuinely unsettling.

Was struggling with that little fight by the bonfire at the start until I realised I ALREADY HAD A SHOTGUN. Then I forgot I actually had to put shells in guns now, was pumping an empty shotgun in front of zombies. Worked that out after the fight, kept pumping anyway, lost a load of ammo on the floor. Have now worked out how close I need to be to my chest to pick up knife so no longer trying Jedi mind tricks on zombie horde. Still a pain in the arse to control, but much better than regular RE games. Still feels like it was written by a ten year old.

One question: do you have to restart the whole console to get out? Couldn't find the exit button for love nor money.

Normally you just push the Oculus button on the right hand controller (left one brings up game menus / pause screen, right one brings up dashboard).

Yeah, wasn't working for this one. No real problem as I was finished for the night, but I'd ideally like to see how much battery has been used up (for obvious reasons!)

Might have just been a one off bug...

That's odd (I don't have the game so i'm guessing its normal for the title).

Does the doubletap headset pass through shortcut show those sorts of settings / status indicators? I can't remember off the top of my head.

No that shows nothing but what the cameras see, no OSD. Pressing the Oculus button on the right controller should suspend whatever game/app your using and give you the option to quit. Works on mine, just tested with RE4.

Looks like my Index just died.

Playing Alyx and started seeing pixelated dots all over the display along with crackling and popping noises coming from the speakers. Rebooted VR and got kaleidoscope like images of SteamVR. Now I just get grey screens and no sound. I'm devastated.

Potentially a dodgy cable? Just rebooted the PC, same problem. Tried a different GPU port, same problem. Unplugged and replugged the headset cable into the power cable and now it seems to be okay.

Phew! Yeah, maybe something just worked itself a bit loose, Zilnad. Your VR dream can continue!
