Just tried EmuVR on my Index and strawberry floating hell, the controls are about as far from intuitive as it is possible to get.

Even when you manage to activate the Index controller binding they seem to just....not work most of the time.

(PS4) hi guys wondered if anyone can help?

Got a new VR headset yesterday. It looks like there’s something on the lens as if dust? When you on a black screen it’s all you can see yet when you get into a game/menu/film whatever you can’t see it.

I have it a wipe with the cloth but it’s all on there still. Is this a fault? Or is there like a film ontop of it or something?

I think that’s the normal mura effect? I always found it distracting personally, but your tolerance does increase over time. Is it like a film grain? Reducing the headset brightness in the options helps a bit.

Sort of. I can see it with my bare eyes looking at the VR but I can’t see it when wearing it really.

Just finished the ironman demo. Some of it was impressive however the story seems stale and the excitement wears off quick

Finally bought Ace Combat in the sale. Hoping for some star wars battlefront levels of awesomeness, even if it’s only two missions

I will shortly have the ability to play Alyx, is it a good idea for me to get through HL1 and 2 (plus episodes) before playing Alyx?

Just started Red Matter on the Quest. This is exactly what i want from my VR, immersive, interactive worlds where the controllers integrate seamlessly with your avatars hands and the locomotion system with the environment, removing a further disconnect. Other examples of this that work great - Astrobot, Statik.

Also, i know Red Matter is already promoted as being one of the prettiest games on the Quest, but it still beggars belief just how good it looks on a mobile phone chip set. The high screen resolution really makes a massive difference in this one, as there is loads of translating and reading to be done, and it always feels comfy on the eyes.

I'm assuming you have at least played them all once before, right? You really should if not. The game is designed based on the assumption that you have.

Alyx is a prequel to HL2, and takes place a fair while after the events of 1, so you don't need to be too fresh on the story for either, but it does obviously call back to the events of the first in dialogue, and sets up some events that appear in HL2 and episodes, so it's good to maybe refresh yourself on the plot points of those.

Yeah I'd tend to agree with that. It is very much a prequel to HL2, but it also deals with things that happen and sets up things going forward from where Episode 2 ended.

If you've played them before, then a simple refresher of what happens should be enough. If you've not then I would probably recommend giving HL2 and the Episodes a play through first but it's not essential. I just think you'll get more from the plot points in Alyx if you know the overall story so far.

I'd not heard of this one, it looks pretty good.

And yes to paying half life. Tbh the first is so old I'd maybe play the intro section as it's referenced a lot in the series, and you get to know what black mesa is, then read up on what happens. Don't skip HL2 and the episodes though, they're essential.

Thanks guys, I've decided to hold off on Alyx and play through the series first. No, I haven't played them before but I did buy HL2 in 2008.

I ended up cancelling the Index ordered and picked up a Quest instead. Have it running SteamVR through Virtual Desktop and I have to say that this is incredible. My previous VR experience is minimal - one 45 minute go on what I think was a Vive about three/four years ago - but this has far exceeded my expectations. No wires, no tracking boxes in the corner of the room! A level of graphical fidelity and lag that I'm more than happy with! It even has hands-free hand tracking!

It's made me very excited about where VR will go in the future, given this is where we already are. Complete, wrap around peripheral vision? Gloves, followed by whole spandex bodysuits containing sensors and haptic feedback devices? Tapping directly into the brain?

I played about an hour of SuperHotVR earlier and by the time I stopped I was sweating and pumped. I'd almost forgotten I was playing a game, in a way. Is something like an Index a significant improvement over a Quest? Because if so, the Index must be amazing.

EDIT: I do wish the Quest had controllers like the Index, so I didn't have to hold the controllers all the time.

Obviously not the same but you can get straps that do this for the Quest controllers.

I am playing through budget cuts so slowly, I don't know why but those robots are genuinely terrifying and I always strawberry float up throwing the knives which makes it even scarier.

Got a bit further although I think I may have managed to skip getting something unless the virus disk doesn't exist. I got the keycard from the desk and legged it and managed to make my way to the next section.

Once you start learning how to throw properly (which was my issue I kept missing) it becomes much less scary. I've seen that you can slice at the enemies as well which allows you to reuse the knives which I had no idea about.

It’s the Upload Vr showcase today at 5pm (4.30 pre show). Might have some interesting stuff coming soon on display. You can watch it on YouTube.
