I think in every VR FPS I've played so far, the first thing I've tried to do after getting my hand on a gun is turn it around, look down the barrel, and shoot myself in the head.

The number of games where doing this doesn't kill you is frankly surprising.

Definitely not why I stopped playing :shifty:

It's odd with vr, I know its now real, but as soon as that robot spots you a very real survival instinct kicks in and it's proper scary. As you say, when a gun gets pointed in your face :dread:

Apparently Oculus Link for Quest now works with USB 2 cables, including the charge cable that comes with the headset.

https://www.roadtovr.com/oculus-link-us ... ing-cable/

I'm keen to try this out once I get the update. Wonder how it works compared to the £80 USB3 cable they were selling.

I finally managed to get my Rift set up again tonight and played around with Gorn and Superhot. Gorn was very atmospheric for an arena fighter but I got stuck trying to salute after my second round so I moved on.

Superhot...oh my God!!! It actually feels like being in the Matrix! I was so wrapped up with dodging billets and catching guns that I hit the wall and fan IRL  I'm looking forward to diving back in, hopefully later this weekend

I'll play around with some other titles that I have in my library before moving on to buy Alyx :toot:

Well, it works, but my PC doesn't have a USB C port, so I had to use my significantly shorter phone charge cable. But I got Moss running nicely while sat next to my PC tower. I need to try a few games side by side to compare it with streaming from virtual desktop, but initial impression is much less noticeable compression in dark areas. Performance felt kind of choppy, though, but could just be a one off, or potentially graphics settings rather than the cable, so I'll need to test it further.

Got my wheel hooked up on my new desk and I've been dipping back into Euro Truck Simulator 2 on my Rift again.

That game really is taken to a new level in VR. It's fantastic.

What resolution does the best PC based VR use and does it have HDR?
I'm trying to get some idea of what PSVR 2 may be like as obviously it won't outdo the PC based solutions which are much more expensive.

Is a doubling of the resolution from PSVR 1 on the cards and is HDR even possible on it?

I think the pimax has the highest resolution (4K?) and biggest fov but this may have changed. I also do not believe HDR is available on any VR headsets but, again, I may be mistake.

Everything I've seen including personally is that Virtual Desktop is better than Oculus Link still, but link is still in beta so I dunno if it'll get better.

Does it have anything like a bigger screen mode? I remember the video I watched of EmuVR being just playing games on quite small screens within a VR room which kind of put me off.

I get that it wouldn't be full screen, but it would be good to play it in a virtual room with a bigger screen than the ones in the video showing it off.

Hmm, i really like the idea of picking up a Quest again, and i feel i could justify it more if i also bought a high end PC to support Oculus Link :fp: The problem i have is that the dedicated "PC room" (i refuse to call it a study) is not big enough for any sort of roomscale. I have my PSVR set up there, but i can barely stretch my arms out to either side of me.
A high end laptop would allow me to connect up downstairs where i have a bit more room, while still allowing me to retreat upstairs for when i want to get comfy and play something on Game Pass for PC in my fortress of solitude (with the cat).

I currently have basically no PC whatsoever (its an integrated one that essentially serves as a second screen for my wifes laptop when she works from home and also allows me to play the PS4). I know very little about PC's. I certainly have never had the inclination to build one, and that has not changed.

Can anyone link me to a suitably powerful laptop that will run Oculus link (this would be priority number 1)? doesnt need to be best of the best (i could never justify the expense), but really should play the most recent wave of VR games (Alyx etc) without issue.

Is there any dramatic downside to using the Quest with PC that i have failed to understand? I gather the lead out of the box works well now, and when i owned a Quest before, the 72hz refresh did not bother me (the dead pixels and generally shoddy build quality did, but that was a year ago so i am hoping things have improved).

Thanks.

I think at the minute the biggest TV might be 32inch? It's a 90s big fat Panasonic.

Website says this though:

`Multiple screens: CRT, LCD, and why not even a cinema screen in your room?`

Well i ordered a Quest. I was browsing stock informer and there was a 64gb one, so i thought i would go for it this time. It has been annoying me that i have Beat Saber for the system but no way to play it anymore! I also did not realize that custom songs could be downloaded to it again (i believe this functionality stopped for a few months). So it looks like i will have to try and get my PC working long enough to get Side Quest and BMBF on to it.

To play Beat Saber you can link yourself with a cable or buy Virtual Desktop and side quest it. Definitely worth beat sabering with no cable!

Quest anniversary sale started today, and lasts until the 25th. Tempted by I Expect You To Die and Red Matter. There's also daily deals by the looks of it, with the first one being Robo Recall.

Sorry, I meant I already have it on the Quest!

And yes, Red Matter and IEYTD are the two games in a typically poor sale that caught my attention!
