Among Us in VR is actually fun though :toot:

It's really good, the weapons are well done and enjoyable to use - even with my 'rift controller on a stick' gun stock. Now we just need some Return to Castle Wolfenstein maps and I'm set.

My only concern is that there was already a massive variety with game modes, maps etc. Unless the player base keeps rising it's going to be even harder to find full servers. Luckily they hit their highest player count recently so hopefully that won't happen.

I don't know what non Japanese worlds are like since I've never been. I started using it to be able to speak to native Japanese people and I've made a load of friends on there so that's why I play it so often. It's super fun! :toot:

Sony has announced the next generation of PlayStation VR for PS5.

Sony has officially announced that the next generation of PlayStation VR is in development. It won’t be released this year. Key features listed include improved resolution, field of view and tracking and input. A single cord for easier set up (Sony have previously discussed an option wireless upgrade). Development kits will be sent out soon. Jim Ryan was interviewed by the Washington Post and said several tech improvements will be introduced at once. It's great to have confirmed Sony's commitment to VR.

Today I’m pleased to share that our next-generation VR system will be coming to PlayStation 5, enabling the ultimate entertainment experience with dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity. Players will feel an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds once they put on the new headset.

We’re continuing to innovate with our new VR system so that our fans can continue to enjoy the unique experiences that are synonymous with PlayStation. We’re taking what we’ve learned since launching PS VR on PS4 to develop a next-gen VR system that enhances everything from resolution and field of view to tracking and input. It will connect to PS5 with a single cord to simplify setup and improve ease-of-use, while enabling a high-fidelity visual experience.

One of the innovations we’re excited about is our new VR controller, which will incorporate some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller, along with a focus on great ergonomics. That’s just one of the examples of future-proof technology we’re developing to match our vision for a whole new generation of VR games and experiences.

There’s still a lot of development underway for our new VR system, so it won’t be launching in 2021. But we wanted to provide this early update to our fans, as the development community has started to work on creating new worlds for you to explore in virtual reality.

Washington Post:
Ryan said developments kits for the PS5-specific VR headset will be sent out soon, though the company isn’t ready to talk about the device’s horsepower or specs. He did say the next headset will be considerably less cumbersome, as opposed to the current PSVR setup that requires wires running through a PlayStation 4, the TV and a separate black box called the PSVR processor.
“Generational leaps allows you to sweep up the advances in technology that have taken place,” Ryan said. “Given this was our first foray into virtual reality, it gives us a chance to apply lessons learned. One of the very vivid illustrations of that is that we will be moving to a very easy single-cord setup.”

Different feelings on this news; firstly, it's gonna be fantastic to see how PSVR2 can improve upon the first version but I also have a small bit of frustration in that Sony - I feel - could have done more to provide quality content for existing PSVR owners these past couple of years.

I would be interested in the PSVR2 if it was wireless. I haven’t played my VR in a while however, I have enjoyed some of the games I have played especially Skyrim, Beat Saber, Everybody’s Golf, GT6 and Astrobot VR.

It showed potential however like the Vita, wasn’t given much. The wires are my only issues especially playing Beat Saber.

PLAY | Persona 3 Reloaded [3h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S3, HiJack S1, The Apprentice S18

Good to see Sony still supporting this. Oculus / FB need competition outside of the PC Market.

I think I know what you mean about feeling frustrated. There has definitely been a loss of momentum in support for it from publishers and the public. I think part of the reason is it is now over fours years old and has dated fast. It's a great experience but I often couldn't be bothered with the ceremony of setting it all up. Now Sony is in the in-between stage before the PSVR2 because it had to launch the PS5 and wait for there to be a noticeable improvement. Hopefully it will draw even more people in.

Yesterday Sony said it would just require one cable, which is better than before. But in a previous developer talk when Sony was talking about a future VR platform it discussed the option of having of wireless as a paid upgrade. It would mean everyone has equal game performance but that freedom from cables should they want it. It would be great if Sony can do it.

Bought a Quest 2 over the weekend. I'm very impressed with it. Software is a bit pricey so I'm going easy with the games. Bought Vader Immortal and have enjoyed what I've played of that so far. The movement system is quite intuitive but not what I thought it'd be. Gave the Superhot demo a go and until I nearly brained my wife on the sofa it was awesome  - personal highlight was grabbing a gun off one bad guy and immediately shooting another behind me without looking 8-)

Had one instance of feeling a bit queasy on Epic Coaster, but it was the derby yesterday and I'd had a few!

Installed Virtual Desktop and to my amazement I can actually run some stuff on a 1050Ti! I had to lock it at 60fps and it's a bit variable - the Enterprise D bridge was running fine but I didn't do a mission as I can't remember any of the Bridge Crew controls so don't know what will happen under stress. Valve Lab ran okay until the catapult thing and then it went awry. The Mega Drive classics bedroom was unplayable. Going to try and set up HL 1/2 with the VR mods. Is it significantly better performance-wise to link up using a USB C cable?

Oh, also, Firefox VR private browsing. How much of that browsing history ends up with the Big Blue F? Just concerned about privacy in this day and age :shifty:

You've brought 4 Facebook cameras into your house and have given them a POV of everything you're doing, and you're worried about them looking at your browser history?

Well when you put it that way

I was perhaps being slightly tongue in cheek and alluding to what one might choose to do incognito with a VR headset, although it's interesting to think about things like whether FB could see something through a browser on Virtual Desktop as opposed to a native app.

I remember talking to someone on here about privacy with regards to Oculus but I can't find the posts. I came to the conclusion that, as I use Facebook quite happily it shouldn't really be too much of an issue, and unfortunately if you want to engage in the digital world you'll have to accept it to a degree. I already have the FB app on my phone (where it presumably has access to my phone camera and microphone) - is it that much more of an intrusion? Our house contains W10, Apple and Android devices, and we've both had our Covid vaccinations. If they want me that badly they'll find me!

Oh, and I keep it in the box when I'm not using it because I have a three year old, so I don't know how much data they'll gather

What are people's solutions for glasses discomfort when using VR headsets? The weight of the Quest 2 coupled with my wide frames makes it a little uncomfortable during prolonged sessions. I remember this being the case when I tried an Oculus Rift in-store a few years ago. I looked at those VR Optician inserts but I was personally thinking that getting a dirt cheap pair of narrow specs from Glasses Direct might be a more economic plan. What do other people do?
