I have Super Hot which will come out, but my other stuff is more singleplayer focussed or too complex. Didn’t really take to Tumble.

Keep Talking and No-one Explodes is fun multiplayer. As is the Playroom VR.

Definitely Playroom VR. It is the best game to show off VR to newbies. And the best thing is that it's free.

To be honest it made me a bit ill.

Given that this probably sounds a bit strange, but if you are looking for a PSVR driving game, you could do worse than picking up DIRT and the VR addon.

EDIT - The VR upgrade is currently on sale, unfortunately the game itself isn't at the moment, so unless you've got it already it'll set you back a bit. If you already have DIRT then the VR upgrade is definitely worth the extra £3.99 its currently going for.

Ok. Astro Bot 2-2 is by far the single best thing I've played all year. Simply astonishing. It could be one of the greatest gaming experiences I've ever had. I'm changing my GOTY.

I felt much the same. After playing it for a few hours, I turned off the console and had to ask myself when I last genuinely enjoyed my time with a game as much. Not the last time mechanics were so perfect, a story twist so clever etc, but just that I have genuinely enjoyed so much.

I have noticed we seem to have a large overlap in our gaming tastes and reactions btw ;)

I'm not sure its quite that good, I mean its really good...but is it better than Mario Odyssey? Or Super Mario 3D Land?

The fact that those questions aren't completely ridiculous says a lot about just how good it is.

I've completed 2-1 and I'm gonna give 2-2 a go tomorrow... based upon your reactions, I'm looking forward to it!

I, too, am thinking about moving Astro-Bot into my GOTY placing. It is just so much fun to play; I can't really think of many games over the years that have made me smile so much  .

It’s made me smile, laugh, hum along to the tune, loads of things I would never do whilst playing most games. Some of that is due to it being in VR admittedly, but I have had VR for over 2 years now, so it’s not pure novelty value (though I concede there is something a bit otherworldly about vr to me still).

As a straight up platformer, it's probably not as good as Odyssey but you're trying to compare an early stage VR platform game against a company that has been making these kinds of games for decades and have honed the craft to an art form. But what it does is something that Nintendo just can't do at the moment and that is positively revel in 3d space. Viewing a 3d game through a 2d television is inherently limiting, they make the best of what is available. But just viewing it in VR is what most of the games do, Astro Bot places you there and the world interacts with you. VR did initially blow me away with things like Skyrim but can you imagine an RPG that hasn't to conform to level design that works on a TV? It's going to be incredible.

I think VR definitely elevates Astro-Bot in a way that just wouldn't happen.

If you were to put it side-by-side with Mario 3D World (Which is probably it's closest Mario comparison) on a plain 2D screen then Mario is the better game. But the sense of presence offered by VR raises Astro-Bot to a whole new level and is arguably "better" than 3D World because of it. At the very least it's on par with it, which is no small feat considering just how good SM3DW is.

But I think it essentially boils down to this....

Can you imagine what Nintendo could do with this tech if they decided to get into it?

Yeah, we do seem to have similar (high quality) tastes. To the point where I'll check out a game if you're positive about it.

Thing with this is, I've been playing games since god was a lad and there really isn't much new under the sun these days. Mostly I'm looking for stuff that does interesting things as opposed to the next iteration of a AAA series. It's probably why I've got a million and one useless peripherals clogging up my loft, I'm constantly looking for a new way to play something. Astro Bot genuinely suprises me at every turn, it's really the first time a dev has fully understood the range of possibilities on offer with VR. Very much how Tearaway was perfectly created for the Vita.

If you look beyond the veneer then it's essentially just a fancy ghost train ride. Everything is on rails. But what a ride!

For me, I think that's due to the multitude of little touches. The way that flowers and plants are knocked aside as you make 'Bot run through them; and how 'Bot sometimes turns to look at you as you leave him for a moment. Myriad small touches like that add up to create a bigger whole and, combined with the fantastic level design that sometimes has you leaning forward or looking down to see different aspects of a level, it leaves you feeling like you really are in the game world alongside Astro-Bot.

Dare I say it, but the game already feels very Nintendo-y :o .

Played the opening 20 minutes or so of Resi 7 on PSVR after having put it off for ages through a fear of both being scared and the worry of potential motion-sickness....

1 - it's scary :dread: . The level of detail in the game world is insane, everything looks so good.
2 - with snap turning on I didn't get any motion sickness at all, was very surprised at that and am delighted as it means I'll be less hesitant at trying other games that I've sat on (Firewall, for example) because I was too worried about vomiting :toot:

I could barely play ZombiU without shitting myself, I dread to think what would happen if I tried a horror game in VR .

+1 for please let Nintendo take up the VR mantle.

It's not so much jump scares for me that are scary in VR (although obviously they give you a jump!), it's having the ability to actually lean round corners and look back over your shoulder. Those 2 abilities, coupled with the creaky-creepy haunted house of Resi7 really ramp up the scare level. It's also the ability to look down a corridor and see an open door that just leads to inky darkness and forcing yourself to walk through. So bad  :dread:

Sounds absolutely amazing and terrifying at the same time. I'm way too chicken for it I'm sure!

Resolution is a bit fuzzy. Still enjoyed my first two races last night. Great feeling judging speed for a corner and avoiding other drivers.
Thanks for the tip, H, but I went for the cheaper option. Dirt one to look out for in future sales though. I might even buy the add-on and wait for the main game to be really discounted in the future.
