All platform VR discussion: PSVR, Valve Index, HTC VIVE, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, Mobile VR +

Virtual Reality is a wonderful, but still niche, platform. On GRcade there are separate threads for PSVR, Oculus and HTC Vive and there isn't always the news or traffic to sustain them all. However there is considerable overlap in the content released for them and discussion of the technology they use, and the next-gen VR tech to come. A game on PlayStation VR may be coming to Oculus Rift so it can be helpful to discuss it with other VR owners who are interested in hearing your experiences before buying it. All these separate platforms share a common goal of establishing VR as an immersive gaming and entertainment platform. So it makes sense for there to be a place where we can all get together to discuss everything together.

PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, HTC VIVE, Windows Mixed Reality, Mobile VR and whatever else is to come. Welcome to a new reality! :D

To get us started.

Quite like the sound of that.

Also looking forward to the heat going away so I can play my PSVR again. Far too hot recently.

VR

And it is indeed far too hot for playing anything remotely physical.

I've got budget cuts lined up (just started it when the heat came so had to abandon after half an hour or so). I played the demo a lot (it's a great showcase to people of just how good vr can be) so I've got high hopes for the full thing.

I also picked up a few escape room games in the steam sale, I'll let you know what theyre like when I get around to them.

Also picked up 'VR the diner duo' which is an asymetrical cooking and serving game. Think overcooked. I've not got the guts to play it just yet as I'm not sure my marriage will survive the evening when we get around to playing it

If you have the right mobile phone, I think Daydream is pretty damn good (especially at the £49 its available for at the moment).

Obviously you've not got the spatial tracking you get in other forms of VR, but its definitely a step above other mobile VR things I've tried in the past.

Bought my 7th copy of Rez for it, its really surprisingly good on the device.

Do you like Rez HSH? I can never quite decide.

Kind of related, I'm really looking forward to Tetris Effect. Looks really cool and I saw a video where one of the pro-Tetris players gave it a shot and seemed to really like it. I'll try and post the videos later when I get a chance, but I'm so sold on that game. :D

I'd probably buy if again if they released a non-VR version on Switch. Its one of my favourite games and everyone should try it in VR.

Had that in my basket waiting for payday, so now on it's way to me and should be delivered Monday. Apparently theres a way of using it with VR games on Steam/PC.

I've got a vr if anyone wants it? I think its compatible with s7 and up. Boxed and all, just cover the postage. I've not used it since I got my Vive and I'm unlikely to ever again. It's a great entry device to see what basic vr is about without investing too much.

Bought an Oculus Rift at the weekend 8-) Managed to find a reasonable sized space in the man cave, but I think a new PC for the living room is on the cards (For VR, couch co-op, Plex, etc) as there is more space.

So far I've tried Job Simulator, Beat Saber and Superhot VR. Now all I want to do is have as many people I know try Superhot as possible

Superhot VR is the one where people usually go from thinking VR is cool to being totally sold on it. I love demoing it but I always want to get the to stop playing so I can have a go

Now it's cooled down I started playing again last night. Played a bit of Rfactor and an escape room game I got cheap in the steam sale. It was alright but quite glitchy and a bit too easy with no real puzzle to speak of.

I never thought much of Superhot when I played it. Thought Robo Recall was much more fun.

I haven't touched my PSVR for a couple of weeks because of the weather - was far too hot to use it. Hoping to get back into it this week though. I'm still at the stage where all I've done is download a strawberry float tonne of demos and I'm just working my way through them. I have VR Worlds to play through as well and complete some of the challenges in that. Managed to find some Move controllers for a decent price so need to try those out as well.

In terms of people's recommendations, what are the best PSVR games? (I have Wipeout, which I'm sure will be mentioned). Would also be useful to know which are worth the price and which are better to be bought during sales (as an aside, how often do they have sales on the PS Store? Is it seasonal like Steam?)

Arkham VR is worth a punt if you can get it cheap as it's only an hour or so long, but it's pretty cool to "BE THE BATMAN".

Tumble VR is a great puzzle game.
Moss is a fantastic little puzzle platformer that would lose about 50% of it's charm without the VR. As it is you get a wonderfully expressive and beautifully animated little Mouse pal to play with.
"I expect you to die" is another puzzle game with cheesy bond style deathtraps to escape from.
Skyrim VR is probably the definitive version of that game for me. Utterly engaging and I couldn't imagine going back to the original version now.

There are loads of other ones worth looking at as well.

Sales are fairly common, but they tend to have big ones every 6 months or so. Always worth keeping an eye on the PSN Deals.

Statik is a fantastic puzzle game. One of my personal favourite VR games on any platform.
The demo is great as well. Short, but very much representative of the full game.

The only reason for me not using my PSVR recently is because I'd feel like all the water in my body was trying to escape through my head and that's not something I enjoy.
Why oh why didn't Sony install air conditioning into the headset?

I'm still really looking forward to Ace Combat 7 as I still feel the need for speed and to see if I can play it without throwing up :shifty: .
I want to know just how strawberry floating amazing I'd have been if I'd joined the RAF and obviously become global Top Gun.

My Google Daydream arrived today and my 4 year olds used it more so far than me. Pretty sure she enjoyed the VR Aliens rollercoaster that autoplayed on YouTube VR when she was using it

I'd like to dabble in VR but I don't really have the funds for a proper headset. I did get a Gear VR with my S8, but I've only really tried Netflix and Temple Run with it.

Has anyone had any experience with VRidge?

I've got something called Trinus to try with Steam VR, both Trinus and VRidge have free versions (a trial with Trinus, 10 minute game sessions with VRidge) will try and have a go at it tomorrow when the child is in nursery.

I tried SteamVR with Vridge a while back, but for whatever reason I couldn't get it to work. I'll have to try again some time.
