I'll just have to keep checking and order one when I can I suppose. Bah. Should've ordered at the weekend.

Tried out hand tracking on the Quest. It's obviously limited at the moment to the home menus, and a couple of native Oculus apps, but it doesn't really feel as intuitive as you'd hoped it would. Using the keyboard in the browser isn't like typing at all. Instead, the keyboard floats a good distance in front of you, like normal, and you use your thumb and index finger to point instead of the touch controllers, then pinch your index and thumb together to click. But, as soon as you move your fingers together to click, it reads it as moving where you're pointing slightly, so I kept clicking the wrong letters. I'd be interested to see what it would feel like if the virtual keyboard could be brought closer, and you could just tap on it.

Tracking struggles with certain hand positions as well, either the hands disappear entirely at certain points, or it's guessing what your fingers are doing when they're obstructed by the rest of your hand, and getting it wrong.

It still feels pretty amazing to see your hands floating around in front of you, and to be able to gesture properly with them. I can imagine it will make multilayer interaction a lot more personal and natural. It's early days, obviously, so hopefully there's plenty of improvements to come, but I'm sticking to the touch controls for now.

I have been playing some Boneworks and it deffo has a Valve feel to the game. The gun play feels really natural (like I would strawberry floating know) and satisfying. My biggest issue is getting side tracked and playing with the physics.

I am yet to load a gun while flipping it in the air, may in the next 1k years I will get close.

Arkham VR is £7.49 on Steam right now. Worth a punt?

I've seen it cheaper before, I paid less than £3 on cdkeys a while back, so check there first.

I'd say it's worth it At that price. There's not much game to speak of, but there's some replayability to it, I think I got 3 hours out of it.

Currently £4.49 on CDkeys. Hadn't even thought to look there.

No problem. Well worth it at that price.

I might try the GTA 5 VR mod tomorrow as I am off. Seem a few people have said it is pretty smooth with the SteamVR beta drivers.

It also looks the Index is getting quit popular over the xmas months as people in the US are getting delivery dates of February 2020. Some may miss the HL: Alyx release.

Well there go my hopes of getting an Index in the UK anytime soon. No doubt they'll divert stock from Europe to the US to meet demand there first.

I think one of the issues they have was opening up to Canada. They will probably open a new production line in Jan for the US Index.

Star Trek Bridge Crew is now available on the Quest. It can be had for not much money if you buy codes on the UPlay store, rather than using the Oculus store.

I have been going through looking for customs songs for beatsaber and there seems to be a lot of Taylor Swift, Anime and meme music. :?

I found I like big butts and the Mandalorian theme music.

I found the full movie soundtrack for Little Shop of Horrors in one massive, 40 minute track.

Shrek seems to be well represented, so does a puffer fish eating a carrot.

Run DMC It's Tricky.

I just found Groove Is In The Heart – Deee-Lite . I watched the preview and there is not a strawberry floating chance I have that kind of co-ordination.

I loaded Lambda1VR onto my Quest yesterday to play the original Half Life in VR, and it's incredible. I'm inside Black Mesa! I can wave the flashlight around the room, rather than have it fixed directly in front of me, and cast spooky shadows over Dr Kleiner's face. I can swing the crowbar! I can do that thing they do on American TV shows where you clasp the flashlight up against the side of the handgun! It feels so much more like a horror game, too, and headcrabs leaping at your face is something else entirely in VR.

There's a few bits that don't quite work properly. Some of the lighting effects don't seem to exist properly in 3D space, and look like they're floating in front of the image ahead of you, but it seems a bit daft to complain that a resonance cascade looks unrealistic. Interacting with ladders is also really trial and error. I suspect they've had to play around with how the character model turns when you rotate your head, as it's almost like I'm facing to one side and trying to strafe up the ladders, so I have to sit there pushing forward, then look slowly to one side until I start heading up instead of sideways.

Still though, for a free mod, it's an amazing transformation, and the perfect precursor to Alyx in MarchQ4 2021.

I'm gonna look at the Half-Life 2 VR mod once I finish my current HL1 playthrough. Up to the Lambda Core now so not too much more to go if I remember (It's been at least 10 years since I last played HL1).

To be fair the reason it's so expensive is because it isn't an ordinary USB cable. It converts USB to fibre optic and then back for minimal latency, is USB 3.2 rather than the 3.0/3.1 cables out there and is significantly lighter, longer and more resilient to bending than other VR capable cables on the market.
