Bought Asseto Corsa and Espire 1 VR in the Steam sale yesterday. Espire 1 is pretty good but natively it thinks I have vive controllers, there's a custom mapping on Steam VR which works and so far I've been really enjoying it. I love how you can basically grab any metal surface and pull yourself around.

Thinking of getting Sairento from the Humble Store as well.

I'm a bit concerned about Sony's approach to VR with the upcoming PS5.

I had thought that PSVR would be compatible with PS5. By "compatible", I took this to mean that existing PSVR games would run on PS5 and that new PSVR games would be made for PS5. The first part is mainly true - most existing PSVR games will run on PS5 - but it seems that, according to a report by PushSquare, the PS5 can only use the headset in PS4 mode; suggesting that no PS5-specific PSVR games will be made. Hitman 3 and No Man's Sky VR modes for PS5 look to be messy; they will run in PS4 mode.

Additionally, Sony has recently been quoted as saying that their next VR system is likely to be a few years away.

Combine these two aspects and it feels reasonable to assume that PSVR in its existing form could be pretty much dead. As the PS4 becomes "last gen", I suspect that very few new PSVR games will appear for it; and it appears that no PS5-specific PSVR games will be made. What a dreadful shame! Sony has done well with PSVR over the past few years in terms of delivering good-quality kit at a reasonable price point, helping to bring VR to a wide audience. It now seems that VR has, at the moment, been put aside by them.

I feel the same Jawa. PSVR is essentially a display unit for what it’s hooked up to, so why can’t we get next gen games on it? I know it would have all the tracking limitations it has always had, but I don’t see why the extra ps5 processing power couldn’t be used to bring Alyx etc over.
PSVR on PS5 was one of the big draws for me, now I am more certain than ever that I will hold off on buying the new console until PSVR2 is released in a couple of years (hopefully). I do have my concerns that this move will lead to it never happening however, as I think the market (especially the non PC VR gaming market) may have been completely swallowed up by Facebook.

I have PSVR and Quest, and 9 times out of 10 I would buy a game that is not reliant on good tracking on the Sony system for the better pricing in sales, comfort and improved textures (at lower resolution). It looks like this may be a dwindling option for the foreseeable future.

One of the great things about VR in No Man's Sky is that it's not made into a separate game like Skyrim VR, so you can switch from VR mode to normal 2D and continue your game, because VR is great but a bit too much for hours of play! (With the current situation it's actually not clear how it will work with NMS if you download it on PS5 surely you can only download the PS5 version so can't play in BC, unless BC mode with VR is in the menu). I wouldn't take this info to mean that PSVR isn't being supported natively on PS5 ever, rather the install base means its not worth the cost of doing it yet.

Sony is committed to VR. Speaking to The Washington Post what Jim Ryan said about the timeline is that it won't be coming out this year (obvs.) or in 2021.

“I think we’re more than a few minutes from the future of VR,” Ryan said. “PlayStation believes in VR. Sony believes in VR, and we definitely believe at some point in the future, VR will represent a meaningful component of interactive entertainment. Will it be this year? No. Will it be next year? No. But will it come at some stage? We believe that. And we’re very pleased with all the experience that we’ve gained with PlayStation VR, and we look forwarding to seeing where that takes us in the future.

Yeah, I think I have that feelign too, kaz. I do like the look of stuff coming out for PS5 and I've even grown to quite like the look of the console... but this confusion / change about PSVR just adds to the quirks and unknowns such as backward compatibility with PS4 and (my personal) feeling that Sony is diminishing it's PS4 service (no access to the PlayStation Collection for PS4 subscribers to PS Plus; and the pricing of PS4 games to match PS5). It makes me feel a little less positive than I did.

I'm not sure that this is quite the case, Venom. Going by the PushSquare report it appears that games have to run in PS4 mode (or, maybe, the PS4 version of the game) to run VR. This raises questions about how (if) the PS5 will enhance performance of the PS4 version, wether PS5 owners buying the game will get access to the PS4 version as well, and wether games saves will work across the versions. Maybe they all will.. but, at this point, it's unclear and perhaps surprising when we're close to launch.

I kinda take it that Ryan was indicating that PSVR 2 (or whatever they decide to call it) is some way off. This makes me think that PSVR could certainly be on the way out; it's unlikely they'll provide too much for PSVR owners in the future if it can only be played in PS4 mode. I guess we'll see! I really like PSVR and I feel that there could (and maybe should) be an opportunity to have more experiences with it, on both the PS4 and PS5.

I doubt they will be discarding the current VR that quickly as why all the bother of giving away free adapters for the PS4’s camera (and you need the serial number of the VR unit to be able to get the adapter.)

Also there’s a new PSVR bundle in Japan marketed for both PS4 and 5, with the camera adapter already in it.

I really hope that we do see more great games and experiences on both PS4 and PS5, Wedgie! I want Sony to continue pushing and supporting the tech through until whenever their next VR system arrives :-) .

This is great news!

I wonder how it works, though; I'd thought that - according to reports - PSVR can only be used in "PS4 compatible" mode on PS5. I'm intrigued as to how it could run at a higher resolution, improved framerate and with more detailed textures in this way.

Still playing a lot of VR and loving it.

Vader Immortal
Enjoyed this so much. Like someone mentioned previously, as a big Star Wars fan it's just so exciting to do the things that happen in the game. I'd happily keep buying these if more came out, even if they were set during the prequel trilogy!

Eleven: Table Tennis
Pretty much obsessed with this. I've played it for hours and hours. Still getting smashed by people on the internet. It's a lot of fun talking to people through the headset! Almost everyone does the same "Agh, strawberry float's sake!" after a bad miss  and they all seem friendly.

Beat Saber
Still enjoying this a lot. It feels so good when you really get into a song and take your combo to a high number. Very tempted to settle on a favourite song and practice on expert+ until I can get all the way through.

Pistol Whip
This just feels so badass at times. Don't put deadeye on unless you want to cry  it's all about dual wield though. It is thoroughly exhausting and a genuinely good workout! Excellent soundtrack and some really atmospheric environments.

Superhot
Think I've played this once since completing the main mode. Can't say I feel the urge to go back to it, to be honest. Do people really get a lot of replay value out of this?

Bit pathetic this but I am a Half Life fanboy. Like no game has ever seeped into my soul like that franchise.

So much so, I saved up and got myself a hefty gaming PC and now have a Quest 2.

Today I had a chance to play wirelessly HL: Alyx for the first time but only for 30 mins or so.

Got it going, went outdoors and when the Strider hit the screen in the first 10 seconds, my heart genuinely soared, and I weirdly, nearly cried. Was 15 years in the making that moment.

I was in City 17. I was IN City 17.

Half Life was back and it was, well, one of my all time moments in gaming.

This sounds great, Ob. I hugely enjoyed table tennis on Wii Sports Resort and a VR version would be ace.

It is amazing, actually being IN your games is something you just can't convey through telling someone, they have to experience it.

There's still nothing else I've found in VR that's quite as wonderful as Alyx, it really is something incredible.

If you want, there's also a VR version of HL1 in Lambda1VR available through Side quest, which is really good. It's the original game, so clearly not built for VR, but the controls are tweaked just enough to make it so satisfying. You get to swing the crowbar, and you can even move the flashlight around separately to where you look. Exploring inside Black Mesa is one hell of a feeling.

I don’t think my fragility could take it.

Been a rough year - even in these circumstances- if I go back to being 17, I might not ever come back.

My problem with Alyx, is simply that I don't see how they can do another HL game that isn't in VR at this point. Anything non-VR will just feel like such a massive step backwards by comparison.

Has anyone else played the Walking Dead Sinners and Saints game? I think it's going to give me a heart attack ! Dealing with a single zombie is just about okay. As soon as there's two of them it's strawberry floating nightmare fuel!

It's in the top tier of the latest Humble VR Bundle, and I'm really tempted.

Walking Dead is the only game in it in interested in (already own I Expect You To Die) but even then, the total is less than that's ever been on its own.

So with the Oculus Quest 2, is the 64GB fine? Those who have it on here what size did you all end up going for? I’m assuming when playing the likes of Half Life your hooked up via cable so no storage on the actual headset is used?
