I know it would have all the tracking limitations it has always had, but I don’t see why the extra ps5 processing power couldn’t be used to bring Alyx etc over.
PSVR on PS5 was one of the big draws for me, now I am more certain than ever that I will hold off on buying the new console until PSVR2 is released in a couple of years (hopefully)...
Yeah, I think I have that feelign too, kaz. I do like the look of stuff coming out for PS5 and I've even grown to quite like the look of the console... but this confusion / change about PSVR just adds to the quirks and unknowns such as backward compatibility with PS4 and (my personal) feeling that Sony is diminishing it's PS4 service (no access to the PlayStation Collection for PS4 subscribers to PS Plus; and the pricing of PS4 games to match PS5). It makes me feel a little less positive than I did.

(With the current situation it's actually not clear how it will work with NMS if you download it on PS5 surely you can only download the PS5 version so can't play in BC, unless BC mode with VR is in the menu). I wouldn't take this info to mean that PSVR isn't being supported natively on PS5 ever, rather the install base means its not worth the cost of doing it yet...
I'm not sure that this is quite the case, Venom. Going by the PushSquare report it appears that games have to run in PS4 mode (or, maybe, the PS4 version of the game) to run VR. This raises questions about how (if) the PS5 will enhance performance of the PS4 version, wether PS5 owners buying the game will get access to the PS4 version as well, and wether games saves will work across the versions. Maybe they all will.. but, at this point, it's unclear and perhaps surprising when we're close to launch.
Venom wrote:...Sony is committed to VR. Speaking to The Washington Post what Jim Ryan said about the timeline is that it won't be coming out this year (obvs.) or in 2021.
“I think we’re more than a few minutes from the future of VR,” Ryan said. “PlayStation believes in VR. Sony believes in VR, and we definitely believe at some point in the future, VR will represent a meaningful component of interactive entertainment. Will it be this year? No. Will it be next year? No. But will it come at some stage? We believe that. And we’re very pleased with all the experience that we’ve gained with PlayStation VR, and we look forwarding to seeing where that takes us in the future.”
I kinda take it that Ryan was indicating that PSVR 2 (or whatever they decide to call it) is some way off. This makes me think that PSVR could certainly be on the way out; it's unlikely they'll provide too much for PSVR owners in the future if it can only be played in PS4 mode. I guess we'll see! I really like PSVR and I feel that there could (and maybe should) be an opportunity to have more experiences with it, on both the PS4 and PS5.
