Getting rid of Social Media, I can get behind that.

I'd kill Hitler, and see if Command and Conquer Red Alert would happen afterwards.

I'd take a tiramisu back to the middle of the 1800's as it would blow their minds  .

Can I go back with a load of crack and get Hitler addicted just so see what would happen to WW2 with a crack addicted Hitler in power?

Sure, but he was already an addict so I am not sure it would make much difference.

That's a great line, you should post it on twitter as you will get a ton of RTs.

I get to hear a lot of new slang and insults (not always directed at me!) but I'd never heard of Fiat 500 girls before until I read your post and looked it up. I gather this means working class and chavvy white girls who have moved their self-focused Facebook posts to twitter.

If Alfred had lost and been killed at the Battle of Edington, all of Anglo-Saxon Britain would have fallen under Danish rule. Culturally Britain could have become much more Scandinavian. England would never have been called England, Christianity would have come later, and our language would be different.

Similarly, if Athelstan had lost the Battle of Brunanburh, the English identity could have never been cemented. The political centres of Britain could have moved Northwards, rather than the south-dominated England we live in today. Imagine a Scotland that reaches only to the Forth and Clyde, bordering a nation ruled from York, formed from the unity of Northumbria, Mercia and Strathclyde.

Finally, and most obviously, what if the Norman conquest had ended in defeat at the battle of Hastings? That huge upheaval and French influence would never have happened, with huge repercussions for British history.

So maybe I'd change one of those, that could be fun.

I'd somehow like to find a way to stop the moon missions being cancelled.
It would be interesting to see if space technology would have advanced as far as people thought it might with bases on the moon appearing and then eventually a trip to Mars. Could we have a base on Mars by now?

Find a way to prevent 9/11 from ever happening. The world changed considerably for the worse that day.

That's a good shout. Pretty much the beginning of the end that event. Wars and terrorism, with the world economy in the shitter.

Okay. That includes a mobile phone. I'd film the key moments from the final days of Jesus' life, including his death and whatever happened to him after it.
Whether you believe he was the Messiah or not, video proof one way or the other would prevent a lot of wars.

I think you’re underestimating just how much religious people will deny reality. It’d be pretty easy for them to just say “that’s fake footage”.

Plus the thread is about what you’d change, not what you’d film for a modern audience. ;)

I wouldn't film it for a modern audience. I'd show it to the people who were around at the time of Christ. They all know what Jesus looks like so will be pretty impossible to say it was faked.

If it doesn't count, then I would change history by making the Treaty of Versailles be a lot kinder to the Germans

Go back to WWII so that Hitler would win and the US would have no choice but to nuke the rest of the world, paving the way for the glorious American Empire that would form from the ashes

either that or I'd go back and strengthen the line of the Mauryan Kings, making the India the greatest empire and ancient superpower the world had ever seen

Or I'd go really far back and save the last Neanderthals and other species of archaic humans from being totally subsumed into Homo Sapiens, cuz the world is lonely with just us

I would go back to 4000 BC with some modern medicine, some 'miracles', and a whole lot of books. I'd become trusted in a village and begin to teach them things. We'd start out small, like how to store grain in pots, or how to make a saddle for a horse, but as the years pass, together we would explore, expand, and build a civilisation to stand the test of time.

It’d go like this:

“This magic man has people trapped in the rectangle! Worship him! Worship him!” and you’d end up as the founder of a religion.

Or

“This demon has trapped people in his magic rectangle! Crucify him, crucify him!”. And you’d be dead.

I'd go back and Tell David Cameron to take his brexit campaign seriously. Or go back to 2009 and tell labour to actually campaign well for the election.

He would be fine if he made sure to take the correct device.

Only a rectangle formed of acacia wood, 3 cubits long and 2 cubits wide, overlayed with gold is a suitable vessel to capture such important images.

I think Apple do an iPad that meets the required specs. Unfortunately it costs 2000 shekels.
