The winky face was hiding between parentheses - I was thrown off as it looked like some artistic reference to the recent sexual allegations scandals:

( ;) ) - "My, my this TV director certainly has a lot of front!"

As OR says - back on topic. I'm hoping they don't just try and do "Games of Thrones: Middle Earth". There is clearly a lot of interesting things that can be done with the license that it would be a shame if they just went down the boobs and dragons route.

I am sure there are some delete scenes for the Hobbit films where you can see that. ;)

There's bound to be a video on Pornhub. Bound to be!

In a move to troll all the fans expecting big things from this I predict it's gonna be a whimsical children's show entitled The Further Adventures of Tom Bombadil.

My post was pretty clear that I wasn't suggesting HP was "better" literature that LOTR - just that I personally enjoyed reading it more.

There is plenty of documented literary criticism of LOTR since its original publication - the fact that some people believe it to be not the greatest example of writing shouldn't come as too much of a shock, nor should it diminish your own enjoyment or appreciation of it.

You misunderstand me. My appreciation or enjoyment are not diminished. My opinion of you certainly is.

I agree. I'm not confident that it will be good at all.

On topic comment so I don't get banned: I wonder what kind of art direction they'll go with this. I don't really want them to try and emulate the gritty film style, but I'd prefer that to the Hobbit's trying-to-be-more-fantastical-but-still-enough-like-the-main-trilogy

The direction will depend on the story. A 20 season long Tom Bombadil epic will have a different tone to a two parter on the fall of Numenor.

I can never tell if people are serious around here. Are people genuinely salty because other people don't like the same books as them? For the record I gave up part way through Two Towers as I thought it was boring, not badly written just boring.

Denster is furious. Furious! Full on lava flows like Mount Doom after the ring falls in style furious.

The rest of us? Not so much, we know there are plenty of people on this forum that have terrible taste and trouble reading big words.

Don't worry Jenuall, Denster thought The Force Awakens was amazing (rather than it being the poor, unoriginal Disney hackjob that it so clearly was).

Don't worry Jenuall - you'll have to sink far lower in my estimations before you reach the level that Lucien occupies.

Well it's always nice to have a target to aim for!

Seriously though, I'm very sorry I don't share the same love for your very important and grown up work of literature about dragons and wizards. ;)

yeah so now we see the true motivation behind your criticism
a misplaced and insecure snobbery about subject matter; whatever
always makes me laugh that nerds will try and pick on other people they think are more nerdy than them

The trouble with the LOTR books is how much it shows that they weren't originally written as a trilogy, the way Tolkien shoehorned the plots of the second and third books to fit after Fellowship sold so well. The films work so nicely because Jackson was able to iron out all the seams and get rid of all the lose ends since he was able to plan it all in advance (plus they are just brilliant films to begin with).

I guess you didn't see the wink then. :fp:

My most read genres are sci fi and fantasy, I've pretty much reached peak nerdiness here! :toot:
