I always preferred "why didn't Aragorn just ask the immortal ghost army to invade mordor", but I think that's only a flaw with the films at least.

Question for the geekmeisters - how did Sauron get the ring on his finger? When we see him in his armour he's got the ring on the outside of his spiky glove and you can clearly see it wouldn't have gone on easily. I think we can all speak from personal experience of the difficulty of slipping a big finger into a small ring.

Alright Moggy, what about this one. If someone got a sufficiently long enough stick, would it be possible to carry the ring to Mordor without it exerting any influence over them?

Frodo (and Sam) mostly had the ring on a chain and it had an influence over them. Gandalf was tempted to take it even though he never physically touched it.
Plus your idea ignores the other part of why using an eagle was a bad plan. Sauron would have seen them coming and sent Nazgul after them long before they got near Mount Doom.
