Watched episode 1. Never really played the Fallout games but enjoyed it a lot. Found it very absorbing.

I finished this last night. I'm evidently off-curve as I just found it ok.

It's definitely Fallout in aesthetic. The music is a given as it's the same tracks from the games, but no worse for it. The costumes and set designs are excellent, they've really nailed the look and feel. Towards the end of the season that one row of buildings in the desert starts to feel much too familiar, but that's one minor complaint amongst some great (and expensive looking) work. That's the highlight of the show for me. The characters and plot never got me invested. Walter Goggins as the Ghoul is the standout performance, with the pre-war flashbacks holding my interest the most. The casting of Matt Berry was spot on. The other two main characters I never cared for, with an overall plot that felt rushed and back loaded in exposition. I found the tonal shifts jarring and the humour at times juvenile, with too many knowing nods to the games that made me cringe.

Overall I enjoyed it enough, but I don't see where the glowing praise is coming from.

And done in the space of a couple of days.
Pretty good - but it's set up to stream/binge where every episode bleeds into 1, and it helps you avoid obvious plot questions with it's momentum,
Very difficult to get a sense of time of the thing, and also the world feels very small with everyone running into the same places/locations easily.
Nailed the tone/feel of the games without being holden to it - tricky balance to pull off.

Moldova entered 32. which had been dead for years, a few days before the trade - that seemed convenient timing? Or was the trade regularly scheduled?
Why did Moldova, the NCR, go on a full raider rampage against 33? She wanted the Overseer for understandable reasons, but Rose etc would have said the rest were simpletons?
Who cleaned Vault 32 and the rampage against "management" overnight? 31 didn't have any staff?
What happened with 33 broken water chip/only 2 months water left? Was it fixed and I didn't notice? To give the "Go with the tested" approach to election?
How did Moldova survive 200 years? There's many possible answers I know but the show didn't give any (and no one seemed to care to ask?)
Was there any hint of how Sergi rediscovered Cold Fusion (or who/why he was going to Moldova with it)?

And this is least of all. How did Maximus not know what sexytime was = although his discription of it being like a pimple bursting was....striking - when you are shown a trooper publically and shamelessly jacking off 4 metres from him at camp? It's an odd thing to get stuck on (lol) but it really jarred with me how inconsistent the world building was.

I thought Lucy was fine - played with will a good mix of competency and naivety that felt authenticate, but also hard to pull off.

I didn't get on with Maximus throughout though. Just not a pleasant character to watch.

Seen the first episode. It looks amazing, both in the production design and the way it's been shot.

Enjoyed it, although the Brotherhood of Steel scenes weren't really that engaging and the episode did feel a little clunky narratively. It's often the case though in opening episodes when introducing multiple characters. So I'll give ep1 a free pass for that.

I'll try and watch an episode each day.

We've watched 4 episodes in two days which is a hell of a lot of TV for us. I think it's excellent. Really good fun and I love all of the main characters.

Pretty nice work for Bethesda. Amazon paid them a load for the IP, they get lots of free advertising - and the old games make money all over again.

Should have just rereleased a barely improved version of the last game at £69.99 like Sony did with the last of us :simper:

Probably shouldn't have had the games at 75% discount on Steam. Fallout 4 is £4....

Does feel a mistake not having a remake of 1 of the games out now to go with the TV show

According to Amazon, the series debuted to stellar viewership, ranking among the service’s top three most-watched titles ever and the most-watched season globally since Rings of Power.

4 episodes in and enjoying this. It is all rather surface-level, stylised silliness - it's just a fantasy romp - but it's very well-made.

That's not necessarily a criticism, some shows try a bit too hard sometimes to be profound, etc, and just get tiresome. There's nothing tiresome about Fallout and it really fits the game it's based on.

Watching it this morning in the shadow of the Israel/Iran situation was quite unnerving.

Got two more episodes to go and I'm loving it.

The attention to detail is startling and I can't think of a single shot that doesn't feel like Fallout.

Episodes 1-6 spoilers below...

Even the way the show plays out feels like the way a player might play the game.
When Lucy goes into the Super-Duper Mart and meets Mr Handy, she tries to talk her way out of it before eventually resorting to guns-blazing which is how 90% of my games go.
When they find Vault 4 and its all "Wow this is great!" but slowly you start to piece together that something is very wrong here. That is quintessential Fallout. :D

My only hesitation is with the guy playing Maximus. Early on I wasn't particularly impressed by him, but he's certainly picked up a bit since meeting Lucy.
I also love that the Power Armour is clunky and awkward as strawberry float.

I'm loving the Vault 31 mystery though. What the hell were these vaults tasked with?

Oh and Walton Goggins is strawberry floating fantastic in this. Both as Colt and as "The Ghoul". Loving his storyline so far and I'm really curious to figure out exactly what happened to him when the bombs fell.

Speculation time......

So this is my guesses on what's happening.

Vault 31 has been taken over by surface dwellers, specifically Moldaver's people for some purpose.
My guess is that Betty is going to turn out to be Walton Goggins Daughter.
Both Lucy's parents are still alive.
No idea what is in the head.

Genuinely think this might be the most faithful adaptation of a game I've ever seen AND it's fantastic.

I've seen a few people complaining about how the show gets the lore wrong but there's only one change the show has made that I really didn't like (Season end spoilers)

Vault-Tec being the ones to drop the bombs and start the Great War. Material within the games made it pretty clear that China struck first due to being pushed into a corner and on the brink of total collapse. Vault-Tec causing the war instead makes them way more competent and forward thinking than they ever were in the games where it was all about selling the lie rather than a reality.

Yeah I found Maximus pretty unlikeable. I also think he suffered from unclear characterisation, he seemed to get stupider as the script/jokes demanded.

Lucy was ok but the humour probably brought her down for me and I felt she just bounced around. I didn't feel much payoff from the ending.

As I say I was much more interested in Cooper's pre-war story. After that probably Lucy's brother had me more invested than Lucy or Maximus. He maybe had the best character development too.

I clocked Jonathan Nolan (brother of Christopher) in the director credits for episode 2, seems he's one of the driving forces behind it happening (is also executive producer). Sounds a big fan of the games, says Fallout 3 nearly derailed his career :slol:

Haven't read the spoilers, but probably going to watch it based on this post and the similar above. (Was very suspicious before this thread!)

Loved the terminal hacking in E7, would have been improved though if they'd got it wrong first time around.
