They also have S1-8 of Red Dwarf which aren’t on Netflix anymore.

It was but now, weirdly, it's not and it's down as an Amazon exclusive and you have to pay for it.

They clearly saw that I had rented it a week before and didn't want to piss me off. Sorry everyone.

Subtitles are a must. The sound mixing is horrible.

I can confirm, that even with subs, it doesn’t make any more sense.

I've just found out that Waymond from Everything Everywhere All At Once is Short Round from Temple of Doom/Data from the Goonies.

Amazon Prime are starting ads next year. Not on a cheaper tier. On the one you already pay for. And if you don't want ads, that'll cost you extra. Excellent business model, well done.

I wonder if we've passed the "golden era" for TV streaming services? There are now too many, they're getting more expensive and the quality is going down. A key factor was "no ads" and now they have ads... unless you're willing to pay even more.

In past months I've returned to buying the occasional disc and I think that could be the best-value path at the moment.

I do think that Prime offers probably the best value for money streaming service. Decent selection of TV and films, free 4K, free Amazon delivery. Plus loads of other gooseberry fool that I don't even use. Adverts is a massive inconvenience but not one that's gonna stop me subscribing.

We passed the golden era awhile ago.

The market is over saturated and unsustainable at current prices which is why these companies are trying to squeeze out extra money from people.

It didn't help that Amazon spent $600trillion on getting the rights to the LoTR appendices.

I wonder if we're going to enter a weird cycle. Streaming services get too saturated, become too expensive and ad filled so they just die off and piracy goes through the roof, then a new streaming service comes along to an empty market with all the content for a low price with no ads like Netflix did initially, then we start all over again and get a bunch of services that start ramping up the prices and bring in ads until they kill themselves off again.

Gonna have to cancel one of my three subscriptions soon and this puts Prime in the top spot for culling right now.
