Analogue, makers of retro consoles that use FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) technology to replicate older systems, are to announce a new retro machine on 16 October 2019.

Their previous products have included the NT Mini (NES), Super NT (SNES) and Mega SG (Mega Drive, Master System and Game Gear). They have a reputation for accuracy and quality, albeit at quite high pricing.

I wonder what the new system will be? Speculation online suggests Game Boy or maybe a cheaper version of the NT.

I seem to remember a load of patents related to the N64 are about to expire, so that seems like a good shout.

Don't these machines play from actual cartridges? Must be an expensive way to experience retro games - not only do you have to put up a lot for the machine but then you've got the crazy cartridge costs. I assume they accept things like Everdrive?

I think they will accept the everdrive, but I'm not sure.

They are definitely for the collector or enthusiast who has a little more cash.

They're a great idea, but just a little too much for me to be able to justify.

Yeah, Analogue's systems are predominantly for folk who already have a collection of carts and want to be able to play them on a machine that puts out a high picture quality on modern screens alongside perfect emulation (except FPGA isn't really emulation at a software level; it's a means of replicating the hardware performance). I'd *love* to get the Mega SG (Sega) one but they are pretty expensive.

If its an N64 then I'll probably get it as I've got some carts.

I'd also get a Dreamcast if they did that. Only other retro thing I've already got software for is the Amiga, but I can't see that happening.

Oh boy, I'd love it to be the Amiga! I dream of someone releasing an A1200... something in the style of the upcoming THEC64. There have been a couple of attempts at this in the past but, I believe, nothing to match the pricing / capabilities of THEC64.

The owning company, Commodore, got bought out by various companies over the period of a few years and the name just faded away. Copyright of most Commodore stuff is now owned by Cloanto and I believe they license rights out to companies wishing to build stuff based on the C64 and Amiga computers.

As someone who owned a Vic-20, C64 and Amiga I'll always be incredibly fond of the company :wub:

As someone who owned a Vic-20, C64 and Amiga I'll always be incredibly fond of the company .

Not the Amiga the Armiga. It was a new version of the computer with a licensed version of Kickstart doing the rounds a few years back.

Oops! Yeah, the Armiga! One of the Amiga emulation machines... it looked cool although I haven't heard much about it recently. Looking around online, it still seems to exist although it is currently out of stock at the manufacturer.

The Amiga is my absolute favourite machine of all time, but i think the CD32 is the more realistic proposition (and that in turn is massively unrealistic).

The recent Kim Justice top 100 Amiga games video on YouTube had my nostalgia glands working overtime, and i did not even agree with the vast majority of their top 100. But i digress.....
