Google, as usual, are shutting down that service and it's being replaced with Youtube music. I was able to move my library over, but it turns out you can't turn off the screen or go to another app while listening to music, which pretty much goes against the point. Does anyone have any alternatives they have been using?

Sync the music to your phone then just use whatever player is in the phone and cut out the middle man.

By sync do you just mean manually copy the music to a folder on the phone?

Um, yeah that's not really a workable solution as I have more music than storage on my phone so don't want to copy all of it at once - and that would be horrendous to remember what's stored locally on my phone.

If you can store it in a cloud provider you can use something like https://www.cloudbeatsapp.com/ (Not used them, just searching for stuff)

Alternatively, add an SD card (unless you bought a phone without an SD Card slot) and copy to that.

Realistically your options are limited. If you have a home sever you can use http://www.subsonic.org/pages/index.jsp to basically setup your own personal streaming service (I used it a long time ago), I have a lifetime license I don’t use that you can have (if you don’t want it and some else does just shout)

Otherwise it may be time to transition to a more modern approach and sign up for Spotify.

If you have a home server Plex has an app as well. But yeah I gave up this fight a few years ago and signed up to Spotify family.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I just looked back and realised I've had my OP6 for two years and three months. Usually by now I would have bought a new phone due to the deterioration of the previous one, but this is just as fast as it was the first time I booted it up.

The battery life isn't quite as strong as it was, but it never fails to make it to the end of the day.

Great purchase. Can't see any reason to upgrade for a long time yet.

I only upgraded due to lack of security updates and i really didn't want to piss about putting in a new battery in my OP3. 4 years is bloody nice for a phone tbh.

The youtube app update. :x

You can't tap the seek bar to skip forwards or backwards. You now have the 1 option of holding and sliding across the circle button along the bar. It's not a bug, it's a feature. :x

I thought my phone was broken!

Why they couldn't make it a toggle off/on feature in youtube settings is beyond me.

Wouldn't be surprised to see that ability become a YouTube Premium only feature like playback with the screen off became after it was removed from the standard app.

Looking to get a Pixel4a, is there anything else out there that's better value I should consider?

Depends on your priorities, I've got a 4a and adore it, but the Nord is better in some ways - but having a Pixel was more important to me.

We're about to order my mum a Samsung M31. She only uses her phone for Calls, texts, Facebook and some Skype so around £200 seems right for her. Plus the battery life on it is utterly insane according to reviews, and she often forgets to charge up her phone until it's sitting at less than 5% battery.

Priorities are just to have a decent functioning phone with good build quality, dependable battery life, and decent OS support. Had both Google and Oneplus phones in the past. Annoyingly the Nord isn't available at the retailer I get additional discount at through work, so it works out about £100 between them.

Here's what I thought of it back in September when Poser asked me on my opinion of it:

It's brilliant, but I upgraded from a pixel 1. It's the same size as the pixel 1, but all screen apart from the camera dot which doesn't bother me as it never blocks anything (if you have it landscape videos don't go wide enough to touch it). Screen is really, really vivid. Lack of 90 Hz doesn't bother me since I've never used a phone that has that feature, and this already feels smoother than my previous phone.

It's a bit heavier so feels sturdier. Might feel a bit smaller than your pixel 2, even if the screen might be bigger - but personally I've moved away from the larger form factors now that it's possible to get a phone that's basically all screen - to me this is the best of both worlds; something I can control with one hand easily, not too bulky for pockets, but still a decent screen size.

Has stereo speakers when landscape (although one of the speaker holes by the charger port are just there for symmetry), headphone jack and a back fingerprint reader - all of which are pluses in my eyes. This is my first phone using gestures rather than the 3 buttons at the bottom, which is taking a bit too get used to but not too bad.

The camera is the same hardware they've been using since the pixel 2, but going by reviews it's still top of class so they must keep updating the software. Seems good to me, but I don't have modern phones to compare to. Selfie cam is much, much better than my old pixel's. Big square on the back for the camera is ridiculous, but doesn't get in the way.

Lack of water resistance doesn't bother me. I've not tried Android pay yet.

It's already got Android 11 which has some minor changes, and fast updates is one reason why I went for this over the Nord.

After a few months of using it I still agree with this. Battery life is fantastic, it's not often I use half of it in a day.
