It doesn't directly affect me since my phone isn't my music player of choice but still a disappointing decision for anyone who misses the socket.

The other main reason is waterproofing.

Also, anyone pissed off at the lack of a headphone jack just buy a usb c - 3.5mm adapter.

I'm used to the new way of going 'back', which is not with a fixed-position back button on screen but by swiping into the middle of the screen from either side edge, and actually once you're used to it, it is better that way.

I'm still pissed off about the lack of a multitask button. It's so much slower to have to drag up from the bottom, hold for a second and then swipe across to select the previous app. On the OnePlus, you simply double-tap the fixed-position button and it does it almost immediately. Feels like a massive step backwards and genuinely wastes time that adds up – I used to double-tap that beautiful button so often .

Also, it still feels unnecessarily thick to me.

Have you ever tried using one of these? I had one for my previous phone and it was a nightmare, the little bastards would get lost or damaged, you're putting more wear on the USB port and you can't charge while listening to anything. Certainly not a comparable experience to a dedicated 3.5 jack.

I've got a Pixel 6 and have had it for a few months now. I love it but I do miss the headphone jack. Luckily I don't leave my house.

It's really great for watching videos on and the battery life is amazing.

Dropped my phone like a fool last night and smashed the strawberry float out of it so I need to get something new. :fp:

What's the latest info on the best Android handsets to go for? I've been Samsung for the last few phones but have no real need to stick with them, was thinking of waiting to see what the new S22 line is like but the prices look insane!

Is the Pixel 6 a solid choice? I know a lot of people have been recommending Oppo stuff - worth a look? I want something with a good battery, decent camera and a big screen (I've been on a 6.7 incher so would be reluctant to drop down to something smaller from there - hi no context!)

No particular budget in mind, I'm not against putting a decent amount of money down to get a good handset that will last though.

I've been looking at reviews for the Pixel 6 Pro and that seems like it might be a good shout

I've got a 6 pro and it's a brilliant phone. It's huge af though. If you can go for the 6 instead you could save some snoops.

I've had an S20 Plus for the last few years so the size shouldn't be too much of an issue!

I'm kind of loathed to step back to anything smaller now as I use the phone for watching a lot of media and increasingly as a streaming destination for playing games when the TV is tied up so the larger screen size comes in handy

I'm on an S10 and looking to upgrade this month.

I think I've sold myself on going over to the Pixel 6, S22 feels a bit of a boring upgrade and I didn't like how bloated it felt at times with Samsung crap (strawberry float off Bixby, no one wants you)

Question is, 6 or 6 Pro. A hefty difference in price, but camera is quite important to me so I'm tempted to go for the Pro.

So I think my options are

Pixel 6 Pro, total contract cost £1,044 over 24 months

Samsung S22 Ultra, total contract cost £1,272 with 12 months Disney plus and Buds pro

Both 24 month contracts with o2 (I want that sweet free data roaming) and 30gb data

Extras for S22 are nice, I'd get use of both. Really torn. Or I can get a S22+ for £1,081.....which feels like it might be the middle ground. Not sure if Ultra would be too big and I doubt I'd use the S pen.

Even ignoring the S pen I think you’d be a fool to get any other phone than the S22 Ultra. It’s a beast of a device, has a great camera but crucially it won’t get borked by a software update further down the line which has happened to every other Google phone I have ever owned.

I had the S8 and the S10 and both were rock solid devices that took literally award winning photos, as in I won some photography competitions with the output of the S8.

These days I’m back with Apple, but only because I’m deeeeeep in that ecosystem. Samsung make by far the best Android devices.

Appreciate the reply, but could you expand more on the software borking point? And why Ultra is different?

I've used Google phones since the Nexus 4 and not sure what borking is being referred to here. I've found them great. Currently on a 4a and loving it.

I picked up a Pixel 6 Pro last week and it's a fantastic device, strong on every count: performance, battery life, screen quality, brightness, camera... it's an excellent phone.

To counter the borking point from above, a large part of why I switched away from Samsung (previous phone was an S20+) was that the latest software update utterly strawberry floated the device over and I had to spend a whole day pissing about trying to downgrade it again.
