Oh yeah it was a great direct, just ever so slightly disappointed with no Animal Crossing news

It’s coming. So many other brilliant-looking games were announced though. Let’s enjoy them for now!

But... Balla, AC was announced as a 2019 game and, as a "big" title, it is a little odd that it wasn't mentioned. Sure, there were lots of great games mentioned in the Direct... doesn't really quench the AC thirst for us AC fans, though :-) .

I'm pretty sure we're going to end up with a special Animal Crossing Direct at this point. Seems like the type of game to get one for itself.

A dedicated Direct is coming, make no mistake. I'll keep saying it, but I think this is going to be a hell of a short announce-to-release period. It got announced September and I'm confident it will get a dedicated Direct with a release date of late April or May, and the Direct just gone has strengthened that confidence.

Feel free to ready the tomatoes for E3 when it finally comes to be that I'm wrong.

I think that’s my main issue, it’s not like AC is never going to come and therefore surely it’s better to have as many other new games as possible? I mean, I too would have preferred to see it to Waifu Emblem, but criticising that Direct for not having AC feels like looking a gift unicorn in the mouth, then trying to yank its horn off.

I really hope they have make some progress with AC and don’t just do New Leaf’s style (and really, the style that series has had since it began) in HD.

Yeah, the style is nice and could be a basis for AC on Switch. I am very fond of the New Leaf designs, though, and I feel that the "enhanced" Pocket Camp style would transfer to Switch very well.

I don't know if I agree with Tomous... I think the distinctive visual "style" of the AC series is part of its charm and I'd like to see it retained. I'm thinking the village we drove through in Mario Kart 8 - I'd like to explore that as the basis of the new game.

The campsite is getting a look in, as well as a bit of town customisation with the Public Works Projects in another Crossing to the New Life, where we go for some Customised Camping.

I feel I've covered the major areas with the series that I wanted to, so I'm unsure if I'll be doing another post in it. The only thing left are the villagers themselves, so if a final post was to come it'd be another general batch of ideas.

I just want a huge strawberry floating town that can be made as a community town and we can all live there and it'll be online even if the creator is not.

This! Be so frigin cool if they did this. There's no reason why they can't do it! Or so like a neighbourhood of towns. Everyone has their individual towns and you cna invite people do your neighborhood where people can visit town when ever they like. And if you're online when they do it they pop up live and they can help you do stuff round your town! Oh dear I'm going to be planning this whole thing in my head now.

New Leaf won't let me delete some random dickhead's town!

Seriously, Isabella says we should just put it on the back burner.

Edit: Appears that my missus has spent days exploring someone else's town thinking that she was playing the whole game

Had to delete her character first, then delete the guy's she bought it off and start again.

If only every job you could turn up a year later just for it to be brushed off as no problem, you've been covered while away. Now continue building that giant gold pyramid with chocolate fountain I ordered.

Does this mean that news about AC for Switch is incoming? Maybe. Hopefully. Who knows!

Well, if things plan out the way I've always been peddling it to, then the announcement could either be this week the day after the Nindies Showcase and release either the week of the date they mention [which is a Monday, so no way a Direct will happen on that day like some are saying] or first week of May. Or it could be the Direct is on the week of 15/April with the release at the end of May.

Preorders are already up for the game, after all, and I assume that deliveries for games could easily be handled within a four or six week period. We'll just have to see what happens. Animal Crossing just isn't an E3 type of game, so I've never thought much of people saying it will be there [and really never thought much to the fact it could be the star game on the scale of Smash Ultimate coverage].

You think it'll release before E3!? Is that based on anything or just speculation?

I understand the argument it's not a game to base your E3 round, but also there's no way Nintendo would only give a franchise as big as AC a 4-6 week hype cycle. Why not reveal it in Feb's Direct if they were planning a pre-E3 release?

I wouldn't be surprised to see a mid April Direct with reveal though. With a deeper dive at E3, for an Autumn release.

I dont' see it releasing in May considering they've shown us nothing of the game yet.

It's based on nothing but my own beliefs and a bit of recent trends.

Most of Nintendo's games have been released in less than a year from their true announcement. For Animal Crossing, that comes in September. Smash was March to December. Breath of the Wild E3'16 to March'17. Super Mario Odyssey January'17 to October'17. Most of Nintendo's big games have been following that trend, and most of them have sat at a nine month period.

As I've said before, Animal Crossing is also not the sort of game you need to be showing lots of information about. Showcase what the town looks like, villagers and their personalities, new features. It can all be done with one Direct, everything else is just expanding on what's already been seen - which is exactly what you want players to see at their own pace.

As soon as that information is released, people will be wanting to get into it and see it all for themselves, so putting that release as four to six weeks after the announcement keeps the game on people's minds all the way to release rather than being more than two months away where plenty of other game news will have come and drowned the hype for the general public [unless there was a refreshing of information before release].

Releasing it first half of the year also means it misses the large amount of games coming in the second.

I would be amazed but delighted if AC Switch releases in this first half-year, 'Rula. I'm still playing New Leaf on 3DS and have added two new fish types to the museum this week :-) .

That's great, Jawa. I've been meaning to get a spot of fishing done myself.
