On the last night of the year, the mayor returns to his town. It has been three months since he last visited, and he found that two villagers had moved away and a third was planning to do so - until he quickly dissuaded that villager from doing so. He found numerous weeds had sprouted, and so set about removing them. Now with just over two hours until the New Year, what will the mayor be doing?

Wander into the caravan camp to check out who is visiting, speak to the Cap'n about popping over to the island and then see Brewster for an energy-boosting coffee, Rula :-).

I've got the turnip-peddler Joan visiting the camp. Unfortunately I don't have the coffee shop, but I'll certainly be spending an hour at the island for some fun and games.

Been a while since one came, but part three of the Crossing to the New Life series looks at the other shops in the shopping district. The Nooklings have brought back the lottery, Kicks has merged with the Able Sisters' store, and houses can now be customised in ways like never before. So Get the Shopping In! and have a read.

Next month, the series will take a look in more detail at the campsite and the wider customisability of the town. Since I missed a month, I thought I'd bring the largest part of the series to an earlier release point, since I want to have finished it before any news of the actual game comes out.

That's earlier than expected if true, and means that it will be revealed fully in a February Direct.

Yeah if it is true (probably a long shot) we must be close to getting a full reveal.

Hearsay if anything but I am curious as to how they are going to develop the game past what the 3DS one that seemed to pretty much cap it off nicely.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

29-April is a Monday. I assume it could either be week beginning 29th, or that's the date the store will be getting the games in and someone posted it thinking that's the actual date. Either way, May seems a definite date.

First half of the year seems more likely as well considering they have Luigi’s Mansion 3 out later in the year (maybe in October?) and then Gen 8 Pokémon probably filling the November slot. Town I imagine would be earlier than November so Pokémon hasn’t got any competition from another game from GameFreak, if it releases in 2019 that is of course.

Kind of surprised how many Switch games out later this year don’t actually have a confirmed release date (not even a month from what I can tell), probably obvious but surely a direct has to be on the horizon, even if just to clear up release dates for games we know about rather than announcing anything new.

I don't believe that at all. AC has become one of Nintendo's bigger franchises, and they're fully aware of it too - Villagers in MK8, Isabelle in Smash, Pocket Camp existing all suggest they're looking to widen its reach. So it sounds unlikely that such a big release would be stealthily done worldwide with so little fanfare beforehand. (Compare to something like Yoshi's Crafted World which we've known about for ages beforehand.)

Plus Animal Crossing needs translating into a bunch of languages, and the quality of the dialogue is such a large part of the game. If it's landing in April it's either a rush job, or been in development for much longer than they've let on.

The game is big enough to deserve its own dedicated Direct I think.

I hope so! I'm kinda thinking that the release may be later in 2019 - perhaps Christmas? - now. The Direct was great but I am a little surprised at no mention of AC.

Yeah it probably is, could have at least promoted a dedicated direct in this one though to help satisfy our itch for any information.

I’m not the biggest Animal Crossing fan, I’ll admit, but who comes out of that Direct going, ‘Well that was nice but I’m gutted that they didn’t announce that thing they never said they’d announce’?

It’s coming. So many other brilliant-looking games were announced though. Let’s enjoy them for now!
