Just the stringfish for me, didn't realise elevation made a difference!

Where is that graphic from?

Was expecting it to be super rare, but got a bit lucky with finding one with just a handful of bait. I have a really nice elevated spot on my island which I actually might end up keeping because it looks so good lol.

Game just had an update. Only just remembered last night to start showing Nook things I've caught so Blathers has now finally moved to Meh-Land.

Caught an Oarfish! Took me by surprise all right.

Question; how do you get a half decent bed? I thought it would be in the shop when that opened but it doesn't seem to be. I wanna start really decking out my house coz it feels like student digs with the camp bed and a Switch in a big empty room.

Also, if the Sturgeon Stringfish is about to bugger off and you need to get to elevation to do it, how do you access the upper areas?

Also, my pears are your pears if anyone would like to hold my hand through the terrifying world of online trading.

The patch removes the duplication cheat.

(I haven't used the cheat, as I thought it would ruin the game for me.)

Had a very productive morning so far:

Made 15 donations to Blathers
Paid off my tent and ordered my house
Helped Gulliver find his communicator parts
Explored the other parts of my island
And chatted with my fellow islanders

And I haven't even started work yet!

I made more from my own island than any of the tours I went on yesterday. Nothing special with any of them except the one with peaches. I look forward to getting on in a bit and selling what I'd held back from the deposit box. And seeing what's new around.

A friend told me how to spot shooting stars last night and I subsequently managed to spot one - got the fragment this morning on the beach, doesn't seem to be useful at the moment so threw it in storage :toot:

You will unlock a bed DIY recipe along with a bunch of others very soon in the main "questline" or whatever you want to call it - if you're unsure what to do, just ask Tom Nook.

You need a ladder, which you should also unlock very soon.

I have peaches you are welcome to! Tend to have my gates open a few hours every day while I'm dicking about.

Please add me!

GameCube Animal Crossing remains one of my favourite ever games, so naturally I am enjoying this... but even after several days, I can't shake the feeling that I am still somehow stuck in the game's tutorial mode.

The music doesn't change; my two other island inhabitants don't offer much - my only options are to chat or say bye, and choosing to chat only prompts them to speak one line of text then end the conversation, there is no actual interaction or involvement with them as there was in previous games; I can't access a good third of my island as it's on a raised level and I've no way to get up there; and even with an expanded pocket inventory, the tools take up so much space and the materials I'm trying to obtain so much too that I'm left with barely any capacity to catch a decent amount of bugs / fish before I have to go to the museum or shop to pass them on. And that's assuming my flimsy tools don't break in the meantime.

I think the next major step in the game is to expand the shop, but there are so few rocks and they usually provide stone which is making obtaining the required amount of iron ore an incredibly slow process. I could use some of the ore to create better tools, but then I'd be waiting even longer to progress the game and - I hope - open up new elements which, TBH, feel sorely missing right now.

We got the same the day after it was released so it's not like I've been playing for significantly fewer days than everyone else, but I feel like we're still way behind.

Am I missing something obvious? Is there a particular item I've failed to obtain, or an event I've not yet triggered? So far the game seems to be mostly about selling weeds and getting attacked by bugs.

I think the main thing you've failed to mention that you may have overlooked is using the Nook Miles ticket to go to a deserted island and farm it for resources.

Make sure you're using the hole digging tip to get a full 8 drops out of every rock, too.(Stand on a rock's diagonal and dig holes behind you (up/down and left/right depending which corner you're on) to prevent you from ricocheting off the rock and gives you 8 drops per rock)

Wait are you not meant to smash the rocks using your fruit strength?

No, if you have 0 strength you can hit the rock up to 8 times without it breaking and it'll drop 8 things.

You get 1 rock respawn a day if you have destroyed all your rocks, so don't fret!

Also the Flimsy Axe has 2 upgrades - "Axe" which will chop down a tree after 3 swings even at 0 strength, and "Stone Axe" which won't.

I've been annihilating my island's rock population with the best quality axe for nothing. :dread:

haha, easily done! I did the same when I started - I'd recommend using the Nook Miles ticket and the shovel (on 0 strength) to get 8 drops from every rock on the deserted islands.
