Really looking forward to this. I hope there is some form of online community feel to it (but not something that takes centre stage), so we can have some sort of GRcade community projects or activities. Just something that connects us in an easily accessible and fun way. Maybe like something showing who has caught the biggest fish / rarest bug (not corona) / has the most points from the HHA.

Yeah, that'd be ace, kaz. It'd be neat to have the ability to visit each other!

If only there was an island that served as a club-like hangout. You'd have the creator of said island, who could invite other people. The island is always open to visit by those on the list no matter whether the creator is there or not. However, if people other than the creator wanted to make changes to things on the island, they could do something which would create a concept for the creator to view and choose to accept. The creator wouldn't have the sole responsibility of all that if they didn't want it, as they can hire others into the same roles. Caretakers of the island, if you will.

Trading posts could be set up for people to use, so an item can be placed with a suitable offer being needed (whether items or money) that the holder could accept. They could also ask for a specific item in return if they wanted. There would be games that could be played, or you could just explore and chat with anyone who turns up, just relaxing on the club island.

We’ll just have to wait and see what the online is actually going to be like before we let our imaginations get carried away! Hopefully we won’t have to wait till launch for any more news on this front.

The issue of saved game data seems like it could be a touch frustrating. The latest rumour - reported here by Nintendo Life - suggests that you may not be able to transfer your save to another Switch console. Recognising that AC can potentially be played for years (I still dabble with my original New Leaf game from 2013!) it'd be super-annoying if you couldn't transfer your game to a replacement Switch or Switch Pro. "Super-annoying" as in "I'm not buying a replacement or upgraded console then".

I'm hyped for AC but I hope that Nintendo doesn't drop the ball here.

Wouldn't the cloud saved games solve this, or will that not work with AC. If so, an option would be to sub short term to the online service whilst you upgrade. Not a great solution, but a possibility.

The game does not support cloud saves. The island itself is system data, meaning a massive core of the data is not tied to any user account. Even if you only had one account on the system, the island and all core data is still going to be system data.

Or at least, that's how I understand it, considering the one island per console deal going on.

If it's one island per console, does that mean players trying to use their individual Switch profiles on said console will all play the same island (so see updates by other players etc), or will it try to restart and save over the game each time?

I believe that different player accounts on a single console will all live on the same island, Dan.

That's right. It's pretty much the same system Go Vacation uses. Everything is tied to the system data, with each account accessing its own data when selected. The game profiles and system profiles in such a situation are linked, so when starting the game, you don't sign in with an account until you select a profile. The same should apply here.

It sounds ridiculous that they won’t be allowing cloud saves or the option to transfer save data to a new console (as the Lite exists and rumours of a Pro won’t die down there’s a good chance some people will need to transfer their data at some point), Animal Crossing is a game you play for years so people won’t want to lose data if they want to buy a new system in the Switch family.

German box art seems to have revealed the download size as 6.2 GB, good for those of us who are planning on going digital.

Sounds promising, I really don’t see why it shouldn’t have cloud saves of some form, same with Pokémon titles on the Switch.

AC is now part of the 2 for £84ish deal on Nintendo online. You also get £4.20 in gold coins as part of the deal. Or you can get it digitally from CD Keys for £39.

In light of Fisher’s latest post in the Switch chat thread, has anyone decided on a town/island name yet? I tend to go for something Nintendo related.

In the past I’ve gone for Kakariko (New Leaf), Twilight (LGTTC after Twilight Town in Paper Mario TTYD), Pallet (GameCube), can’t remember my Wild World town name so probably wasn’t anything too special.....

I've only had 1 previous AC game but will continue my "tradition" of calling the town Gotham. Otherwise I'd spend about 10 hours sat in front of the screen trying to decide :slol:

I think I called my New Leaf town "Newtown" :slol: :fp:

I'll try and be more original this time.
