PostAnimal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 & Happy Home Paradise DLC live from Nov 5th 2021!
by Robbo-92 » Thu Nov 04, 2021 5:04 pm

Hello again everyone, in whats felt like a far too quick time of 19 months, Animal Crossing New Horizons is finally getting its first and probably its only paid DLC alongside by far the biggest update the game has seen so far in its lifespan.

Obviously I'm not going to go into everything is this hastily copied and pasted 'new' topic but I will mention a few things that have really got me excited for this update to be released,

- Returning NPCs, Animal Crossing New Horizons is a fantastic entry in the series but its always felt a little lacking with regards with how few returning faces there was (or no face if you happened to be Blanca!), that has now been rectified somewhat (although Blanca has sadly been omitted again by the looks of it :( ) with popular villagers returning like Brewster and Kapp'n to name but a couple! I can't wait to see Brewster again
- Farming & cooking, I remember to try and scratch the AC itch on my Switch prior to it releasing, I was recommended Stardew Valley time and time again, time and time again I just couldn't get into it at all, I loved the premise but I felt the clock was always against me and couldn't relax playing it at all :( now with farming and cooking coming I can farm in peace with no time constraints :toot: Also all of the sea bass you constantly catch can now be cooked into something delicious
- Gyroids, Gyroids are an odd one, they're wonderfully quirky items that move to the music in your house, not much more to say really.
- Harv's Island, this is a bit of a big one, but Harv's Island is finally becoming useful as you can get the visiting shops (even the shady pirate Redd!) to set up on a permanent basis! :toot:

I'll post the most recent direct here as that does a far better job of explaining the updates than I could

Part of the fun of Animal Crossing is finding out and enjoying it at entirely your own pace though, so I will keep the AC: New Horizons 2.0 thread short and not too sweet, with few spoilers. I really hope everyone enjoys the update and the DLC if you're getting it and hope we can continue to discuss it for a long time yet! :)

Edit, as it now looks like I’ve inherited the Animal Crossing New Horizons thread I thought I best attempt something that resembles a reasonable opening post, I’ll add a few more bits in over time but just a couple of videos for now.

Official reveal trailer,

First gameplay courtesy of Nintendo Treehouse at E3,

If the hustle and bustle of modern life’s got you down, Tom Nook has a new business venture up his sleeve that he knows you’ll adore: the Nook Inc. Deserted Island Getaway Package! Sure, you’ve crossed paths with colorful characters near and far. Had a grand time as one of the city folk. May’ve even turned over a new leaf and dedicated yourself to public service! But deep down, isn’t there a part of you that longs for…freedom? Then perhaps a long walk on the beach of a deserted island, where a rich wealth of untouched nature awaits, is just what the doctor ordered!

Peaceful creativity and charm await as you roll up your sleeves and make your new life whatever you want it to be. Collect resources and craft everything from creature comforts to handy tools. Embrace your green thumb as you interact with flowers and trees in new ways. Set up a homestead where the rules of what goes indoors and out no longer apply. Make friends with new arrivals, enjoy the seasons, pole-vault across rivers as you explore, and more!

This new addition to the Animal Crossing series launches March 20, 2020, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch system.

FEATURES:

- Customise your character and home, and decorate the landscape (with furniture, if you like!), as you create your very own island paradise.
- Experience a robust new crafting system—collect materials to construct everything from furniture to tools!
- Enjoy a variety of relaxing activities like gardening, fishing, decorating, interacting with charming NPCs, and more, as classic Animal Crossing experiences come to life in fun new ways within the deserted-island setting.
- Up to eight players can reside on an island; four residents of the same island can play together simultaneously on a single system.
- Eight players can play together on one player’s island via online* multiplayer or local wireless**.

Shamefully copied from Nintendos site

It looks good? Naturally I’m disappointed its been pushed back to March 2020 but I still think we could have seen some more about it, I mentioned in the other thread I was worried it’d be delayed when we had 10 minutes to go and hadn’t seen it yet and sadly that turned out to true :(

Edit, new video form the Nintendo Direct on 04/09/19.

Edit, official box art!

Looks lovely, really shaping up to be my game of 2020 so far

Edit, to go alongside the GOTY 2020, they’ve announced a lovely Animal Crossing themed console. Every time they announce something to do with this game it just makes me yearn for it more and more

It’s time....... we have a 25 minute direct focused on Animal Crossing New Horizons! Airing at 2pm on Thursday the 20th of February. Considering how little we’ve seen of this the direct could be something special

Animal Crossing New Horizons has now released! And it’s truly wonderful  I hope everyone is enjoying spending their free time on their (temporarily) deserted island :toot:

Ah, lovely. 2.0 thread. Time for everyone to migrate here.

Probably should load the game up today, now I think on it. I got a scary painting from Redd that I'm pretty sure is genuine, but I really want to check. If it's not, Hans is getting a second one outside his house.

Anyone else planning to give their town a revamp? I’ve already shifted my playground into a bigger spot

Robbo would you be interested in a spoiler based on something from your OP...?

So 2.0 went live a day early. No Happy Home DLC yet as far as I am aware...

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

Only if it’s a slight spoiler…….

Yes, the update has gone live today for some reason, the DLC is going live tomorrow, guess so people can enjoy the update without feeling the need to jump straight into the DLC?

Ah, it's tricky :slol: I can't really even give you a hint as to what it's about as I think it'll be obvious what the spoiler is once I say so. The only other thing I could say is that I think you'll be happy to hear it?

I’ll decline for now and ask you to post it in a spoiler in a few days then and see if I’ve come across it naturally or not then!

Dam this is a lovely update isn’t it?

The way they’re drip feeding some aspects is good as well, like only being able to fund one shop a day on Harv’s Island, obviously I’ve funded Redd’s first!

I was only able to hop on briefly so didn't get to Harv's - but Redd was visiting my island anyway  This is very lucky as he was also visiting last week - on the last day I played!

Same

Like Dan though he is also visiting me in his boat today - with a Tremendous Statue no less! Although I didn't actually check if it is legit...

The update is brilliant  Even if I'm mad that I now have more stamp goals to finish when I was so close to a complete set!

Shows that the updates been in the works since the start in some ways though as I don’t think they’ve added another row have they?

Of stamps? There are half a dozen new ones added in, they are intermingled with the rest rather than all appearing at the end. Not sure what some of them are for yet!

If you time travel on Animal Crossing to the morning of tomorrow or a day after that then the Happy Designer stuff will start , I don't time travel but the misses does and its all started for her as she's logged on and been met by the Happy team.

I still had some blank spaces from last time that I never discovered, so wasn't sure if they'd purposefully left some blank in there or not.

Not loaded it up yet, but imagine the DLC will be live for everyone now! :toot: Even those not time travelling! I think I'll be spending a bit more time with the update before jumping straight into the DLC though.

When I got on briefly yesterday evening it was like the game was trying to win me over. Not only the update but Redd was there, I had a campsite visitor, Celeste was in town... if I'd had any turnips I'd have checked the selling price!

Yeah, I'm gonna have to spend some time re-learning the controls and remembering how things work before diving into all the new stuff. It sure does feel good to know that we're getting back into AC :-).

Had a look at the new stuff last night. Brewster already making his way over and missus has realised how much stuff she needs to sort out on her end

Can I be added to the list of islands please? Dana Isle could do with some love.
