TRASH OR TREASURE?
In this undersea society, trash is not only a way of life, but a valuable resource, used for everything from fashion to firearms. But with the presence of trash comes a mysterious infection known as the Gunk, which could spell doom for the entire ocean.

Image

LEARN FROM NATURE
As Kril explores the ocean, he'll gain a variety of Umami Techniques—powerful attacks learned from the denizens of the seas. Punch your enemies with the overwhelming might of a Mantis Shrimp, ensnare them with the horrifying Bobbit Worm, and much more.

Image

UNEXPLORED DEPTHS
The ocean goes deeper than one can imagine. Fight your way through kelp forests, coral reefs, sand castle cities, and even the unfathomable darkness of the deep-sea trenches, all in the name of getting back your prized shell.

Image

PLAY AT YOUR OWN PACE
Designed to be an approachable experience for newer soulslike players as well as provide a challenge for hardcore fans, Another Crab's Treasure offers something for any level of skill or time commitment. Assist options are provided for those seeking a less frustrating experience, but gluttons for punishment are sure to find the default game a challenge.

To bolster this strong foundation, Another Crab’s Treasure also includes a raft of assist features that rebalance the game’s combat. Players can reduce incoming damage, lower enemy health, improve the durability of your improvised shell, increase dodge invincibility frames and parry windows — though, the game never actually tells you how to parry — and even slow the game down. Fall damage, which is only taken when falling into the abyss, can be reduced or removed, as can the risk of losing your microplastics on death. Dying at a boss will also see you respawn nearby, with items in tow, rather than at the last checkpoint. Of course, as developer Aggro Crab’s marketing has spotlighted, you can also replace Kril’s shell with a gun that one-shots everything.

Scared of crabs, so it's a no from me. Not that the form they take in this game appears scary, but i'm worried that crab based games could be the next "cosy farming" sensation .

Would have been interested in this if it were scoring just a little bit better, but I think it's a difficult proposition at 79%. The IGN review for instance was fairly positive, but called it a little shallow and jank in places, which has put me off. I think the polish and depth really has to be there to win me over. Happy for their successful launch though!

Love the loading screen tips.

Put a few hours into this today instead of starting Jedi Survivor - I really like it!

80% feels about right I'd say. It looks decent enough (nothing spectacular) and the combat is solid. There is definitely a bit of jank (I managed to immediately find a skip to let me see the Duchess naked (I was the naked one) and the camera is very frustrating in combat at times) but platforming is solid enough and exploring is extremely rewarding. I cleared out the starting area before going to the Moon Snail Cave and felt very powerful as I moved on. It's tough but not awful and gas a nice power creep if you're exploring everywhere and utilising your souls cleverly.

On that note I love the aquatic skin they've given everything. Instead of enemies' souls, you're collecting their microplastics . Magic is "umami" and the stat that affects it is MSG. It's cute seeing how they've made trash into weapons and the environment. Love the early "don't fight this guy yet" boss' weapon which is one of those padlocks with a long metal loop and a razor blade to make a guillotine.

The skill tree is cool and each branch of it seems viable. I went down the parry tree as it gives you a bloodborne esque "get shell health back by attacking quickly" trait, and the parry itself is so much fun. Letting go of block before the attack hits you is very engaging alongside the satisfying "pop out of shell" animation you get mirroring your letting go of the shoulder button. Just matches up nicely.

On shells, they are a really cool conceit.. Making armour disposable with their own unique magic attack encourages/forces you to swap often and try everything out. In Dark Souls you pretty much lock your armour in early and never change it. As you're constantly switching styles you get slightly different feeling fights all the time which is engaging.

If you're worried about being it being too hard there are some great assist mode options. Do yourself a favour and just check out that bottom option in that menu when you get a chance.

Did not to expect to enjoy this this much but looking forward to seeing more!

Only played a short session but I like it so far. I got to (presumably) the first boss and got thrashed, so I guess I need to go and buy some upgrades. Parry does sound essential, because the combat without it feels a bit basic.

It seems quite linear so far, but maybe that’s just the early stages going easier on us. I did explore a little side route though, until it got too hazardous. There’s a distinct lack of weapons and shells, but again, early stages.

My only complaint is that there doesn’t seem to be any way to scroll or zoom the map, so you only get to see your immediate surroundings. Seems kind of pointless and mean.
