Yep it's insane. Between 10 and 15 thousand people are murdered using guns every year in the USA. It's just incredible that any civilised nation could deem that as okay.

Almost 40,000 gun related deaths in 2017. God's teeth.

I think if any other country suddenly had the same number of shootings the government would be thrown out of office and a national crisis would be called.
If it was any European country they'd most likely call for help and we'd be sending in extra police to help them out and the gun laws would change.

To put that number into context.

US deaths in the Vietnam War: 58,220

US deaths in the first Iraq War: 219

US deaths in the Afghanistan War: 2,372

US deaths in the second Iraq War: 4,424

Those are total deaths for the entire conflicts. Thanks to their gun laws, they are basically experiencing almost Vietnam War levels of death every year.

There’s just been another one in El Paso Texas, looks like inside a Walmart and adjoining shopping centre. 1 suspect in custody at the moment. Multiple deaths and injuries though no confirmed numbers. Local NBC affiliates are saying at least 18 fatalities at the moment. A really bad one this.

twitter.com/ktsmtv/status/1157738574676201478

A shooting at a Texas shopping mall has ended in "multiple fatalities", local officials say.

First reports of a shooting emerged at around 11:00 local time (18:00 GMT).

Police warned residents to steer clear of the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, just a few miles from the US-Mexico border.

A police spokesman on the scene confirmed there had been deaths but an exact toll is unclear. Three people are reportedly in custody.

About an hour after their initial warning, El Paso police tweeted they had received multiple reports of multiple shooters, and were searching a "very large area".

Police said they no longer believed there was any immediate threat to the public, but were continuing searches.
Local news outlet the El Paso Times reported that at least 11 people had arrived at the city's University Medical Centre.

El Paso Mayor Dee Margo tweeted confirmation of "several fatalities and multiple suspects in custody", and said the shopping mall was still an "active scene" as of 13:00 local time (19:00 GMT).

"My condolences and prayers go out to all of El Paso as we mourn those impacted by this tragedy".

Disgusting person. Absolute craziness in the US. Firstly the legalised guns, secondly, that shooting innocent people has almost become a part of the culture.

Sadly this won't change for a long time no matter how many people are killed.
Even if they have an incident where a few hundred die they won't take action on gun laws as the gun lobby is just that powerful and they can shut down any and all debate by just saying "Second amendment!" at which point all rational debate ends and the death toll becomes irrelevant.

According to various reports on Twitter there’s just been another mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio as well.

There’s not even any reasonable compromise when it comes to their gun laws, is there. What does a man on the street need an AK or equivalent for? People walking around more tooled up than the average policeman.

Police are responding to a report of an active shooter in the area of East 5th Street in the Oregon District.

Initial reports indicate multiple people shot, and medics are responding to the area. Reports also indicate that a shooter is down.

Police scanner traffic has indicated that there may be as many as 7 dead, and police are searching for a second possible shooter that may have left the area in a dark-colored Jeep.

What can you say at this point that hasn't already been said? It's become such a regular occurrence that I'm just totally numb to it all now.

This won't change, ever. To change there has to be a red line and if 20 kids under 7 isn't your red line then you don't have one.

The only possible red line I can think of would be if Congress was attacked in a mass shooting. And even then I bet they wouldn’t do strawberry float all.

More on Dayton:

Sources are telling us there are at least 10 people dead and an unknown number of wounded. We’re working to confirm some eyewitness accounts that a person who was denied entry into the bar opened fire.

In a public Facebook post from a person named James Williams: “Sad people are not right. I’m safe. Happened right in front of the patio where I was sitting in front of Neds. The guy in front of Ned Peppers’ door is the active shooter.

“He tried to go into the bar but did not make it through the door. Someone took the gun from him and he got shot and is dead.

“There are at least eight people dead right by the picnic table where I was on the street. A bunch of people taken to the hospital. I don’t know how any... this place is a disaster.”

https://www.whio.com/news/crime--law/po ... lnDLdZQxM/

Trump meanwhile is more interested in what’s happening in London and Germany while there are at least 30 people now dead in 2 incidents on his own doorstep in less than 24 hours. In the U.K. and Germany these would be major terror incidents.

I can't remember who said it (definitely another GRcadian, may have been on here or on Twitter), but if this was anywhere else in the world, Trump would be calling that country a shithole.

strawberry float America, strawberry float any banana split that owns a gun (for whatever reason) and strawberry float any banana split that has the audacity to say they love the shithole country.
