I didn’t realise you needed PSplus to play this, even if you only want to solo it. Bit of a shitter really.

Ask my folks to get it for Christmas for me, now I realise I've gotta get PS Plus to play the dam thing too.

I played it from start to finish. It felt like what it was - an undercooked, half-baked mishmash mess.
Graphics were alright though.

This has to be one of the saddest stories in gaming.
A once proud developer sending out a high profile game to die and then seemingly just abandoning it I'm unsure what they expect customers to think after that. Plenty of games have had disastrous starts and they only have to look at something like No Man's Sky to see a game with a rough start that then the developers put some work in and it's turned a corner.

I have a feeling the people who bought Anthem will be more hesitant to jump in again for games made by these people.

There seem to be constant rumours of an Anthem 2.0 relaunch being in development, but at this point I'm pretty sure it's just wishful thinking from people.

When Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite was released the same thing happened. Loads of talk of a special update adding the X-Men and making the game good..... Then nothing.

http://www.ign.com//articles/2020/02/10 ... e-confirms

Confirms the update, re do is going to happen.

Will be fascinating to see how it does. As it'll be going up against a lot of big games and 2 new consoles.

Anthem Update

Hey everyone!

One year ago, we were preparing to launch Anthem – a game that represented a big leap into new territory for us as a studio. It was an exhilarating and terrifying experience to go out to the world with something new and different, and we are grateful to all the players who have come along with us on the journey. It has been a thrill for us to see the creativity of our players in designing customized Javelins, and watching them master Anthem’s flying and fighting gameplay. I am so proud of the work the team has put into this game, and at the same time there’s so much more that we – and you – would have wanted from it.

Over the last year, the team has worked hard to improve stability, performance and general quality of life while delivering three seasons of new content and features. We have also heard your feedback that Anthem needs a more satisfying loot experience, better long-term progression and a more fulfilling end game. So we recognize that there’s still more fundamental work to be done to bring out the full potential of the experience, and it will require a more substantial reinvention than an update or expansion. Over the coming months we will be focusing on a longer-term redesign of the experience, specifically working to reinvent the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges and progression with meaningful rewards – while preserving the fun of flying and fighting in a vast science-fantasy setting. And to do that properly we’ll be doing something we’d like to have done more of the first time around – giving a focused team the time to test and iterate, focusing on gameplay first.

In the meantime, we will continue to run the current version of Anthem, but move away from full seasons as the team works towards the future of Anthem. We’ll keep the game going with events, store refreshes, and revisiting past seasonal and cataclysm content – starting with our anniversary towards the end of the month.

Creating new worlds is central to our studio mission, but it’s not easy. Sometimes we get it right, sometimes we miss. What keeps us going is the support from players like you. Your feedback gives us guidance on how we can improve, and your passion inspires us with the courage to create. I look forward to working together with your involvement and feedback towards the best possible future for Anthem.

Casey

This close to a new console generation? Waste of time and money.

Coming as a statement from such a big developer, this is incredibly open. I am kinda surprised that EA allowed such honesty; is this suggesting that the developer didn't feel they were given enough people, time and focus to build the game to the standard they wanted to?

I've not played the game but I do like this straight-up talk; and - even though it appears that the game was a bit of a rip when it launched at fifty-five quid - I do like that the developer is taking long-term action to improve the experience. For Anthem fans, it's a positive thing that the game could potentially be updated and improved as No Man's Sky and Fallout 76 have been.

I wouldn't be surprised if part of the relaunch is porting it to the new consoles as well.

Yeah, seems like a good shout; that much work and change probably suggests they're looking to expand the audience.

Thinking about it, if they can get it done in time I wouldn't be remotely surprised if EA strike a deal to make Anthem a pack in game with the initial batch of new gen consoles, like they did with Fifa 14 when the Xbox One first launched.

Such a weird little bit of news to leak. The public aren't going to see or hear anything, but the fate of the game will be decided this week.

Methinks a disgruntled team-member will let us know.

I really enjoyed the main campaign, and teaming up with random players worked well. But after the campaign, my interest went off a cliff. There just wasn’t enough structured content to compel me to play on. I was really hoping for a successful relaunch, because I loved the world they created and the way it played. But I can only see this going one way now. They’ve put this news out to pave the way for scrapping it. Hope I’m wrong.
