As far as I remember, that's exactly how Destiny was marketed.

Also, I continue to be flabbergasted at the popularity of some of these YouTubers. That was an incredibly dull video that point by point, and with very little enthusiasm or nuance, listed some things. Some features. It was essentially a PR piece. Compare that to the RPS preview, which was full of wonderful writing and usefully illustrative personal takes.

I believe that latest footage is captured off an Xbox One X. It's a looker at least.

Will check the video but but I was only kind of impressed by what I saw at e3 (they made flying look gooseberry fool ffs!), but then they gave a mixed message about how it plays solo and so it's off my radar again.

I like from what I've seen from the video, but it's still a long way to go until the release day.

Yeah, watched for 30 seconds, skipped a bit, watched for another 20 secs or so, heard a load of proxy/stand-in terms for Destiny features, closed.

I'm sure it'll be a laugh, but it's Destiny. Not like Destiny, not similar to Destiny...it's Destiny.

I think they're really going to have problems with that assumption as while a few years ago a game that was pretty much Destiny Advanced would sell by the bucket load I'm not sure that's the case anymore. I'd love to try and prove you wrong but at the moment the clips do make it look a whole lot like Destiny.

It's fun to see Anthem get exposed time and time again for being nothing like the 'Bioware experience' EA would like to push. This is just a generic sci-fi shooter for people who skip cutscenes and will most likely be the nail in the coffin for Bioware.

Conflicted. Yes, it’s a good looking action game but is it a good Bioware game? I play Bioware games for story, characters, ME1 & 2 made me believe in their worlds. 3 was the turning point of it becoming a generic action game where story was secondary.

We shall see.

I think Bioware needs to be making games closer to the recent Wolfenstein or Doom efforts, stuff that they'd clearly be able to handle better than attempting to recapture old glories.

Today's Bioware is completely different to the Bioware of old. It's not going to give us another KOTOR or Mass Effect.

Wouldn't mind seeing them be put on Star Wars duty, actually - Anthem's jetpack gameplay looks alright, so some kind of Mandalorian/Fett game maybe? Possibly even a new Republic Commando.

I don’t follow. Why would Bioware make games like Doom when they are not known for that?

The reason why Doom was a success because it captured what made that franchise great in the first place with modern retellings.

Because they're clearly no good at making Bioware games anymore, so if they're given something that's less story-driven and more action-focused, they'd probably strawberry float it up less.

Let's be fair, BioWare haven't made a decent RPG since ME3 (and even that's debatable) six years ago. I'm all for them trying something new, I just wish they weren't trying to remake Destiny.

I know this place is basically a Nintendo forum, but 4 pages for this game does not bode well for it.

The dialogue stuff above really doesn't bother me. I hate dialogue wheels, it does not make me feel connected to a character at all and it slows down the game horribly. I'd much rather developers/writers craft the characters for the story they want to tell and just let me play that.

Which brings me on to the My Story trailer above. My word that was awful, they really need to fire whoever is in charge of marketing this game because that was almost tailor made to make the game just look like Destiny in a different skin. Though I've bought and completed both games I'm only really an outside viewer of everything that goes on around Destiny, but it seems to me that the best way to advertise this would have been to play up the story because that's the shittest thing about the Destiny experience (at least in my opinion). If you want to get me invested in your world, show me there's an interesting story to dive into, then I'll fall in love with your characters, want to buy DLC and spend more time invested in it. That trailer above leave me questioning whether the game actually has a solo story to enjoy, it just sounds like raids and fetch quests with friends.

Looks pretty though.

It's far too early to say if the game will be any good or not as so little has been shown. Binary choices are not always terrible and they can still put in a decent amount of choice if the branches make a difference but the fact that the gameworld by design has to be the same for everyone will obviously cause problems for any game of this type.
To just write off an entire company before we even have a demo or much information at all is pure madness.

Yes, this could turn into the shittiest game in history and make the Destiny 2 launch look glorious by comparison but at the moment we know practically nothing but a few purposefully vague video's (Do we really want to go back to the days of completely false shots of games that are nowhere near finished?) and some into on a couple of character types.

A thread on a tiny forum reaching four pages doesn't have any bearing on how this will do  :fp: It's like the people on Resetera that don't realise the vast majority of people that buy games are outside of their little bubble.

Personally I'm not really arsed about this at all. It looks great from a technical point of view but everything else looks horribly generic. I've already got Destiny and Monster Hunter to scratch the same itch that this is aiming for and I don't have time for a third game.

Anthem's having an impact on other Bioware titles in development...

New Dragon Age, Mass Effect titles will be heavily influenced by Anthem, says Bioware

Bioware’s new sci-fi loot-shooter Anthem is already influencing how the development team will create future titles in the Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises.

Speaking at PAX West this weekend, the team at Bioware said that Anthem’s story structure, which will be delivered as part of a live service allowing the team to continue to write and release new storylines post release, is a method it expects to employ for its other much-loved franchises.

Anthem is structured so that its hub world, Tarsis, is where players will experience the more traditional RPG elements and story-telling of the game, while it’s online open world is where players can get stuck into the looting and shooting.

“We’ve got the continuation of stories after we’ve launched,” said Michael Gamble, lead producer on Anthem. “If you remember back to the ancient times we released a game and that would the story for a set of characters, and we released DLC that enabled us to tell unique bits of story afterwards.

“For Anthem, where we’d all like to see us head, is the ability to tell new great stories throughout the years, throughout the months after launch.”

“So After Anthem we can say, okay, now we’re going to expand the storyline for one of those Agents, or now that certain points in the game world have happened, this changes the relationship, this changes this character, this changes the type of missions for certain characters. Or even we add new characters, we add new Agents. We can do all that and Anthem gives us the tools to do all that.

“My point is that I hope that future games, whether it’s Dragon Age or the other one that starts with ‘Mass’, continues to utilise this kind of storytelling.”

All future story DLC or content updates for Anthem will be free, letting all players follow the story without any paywalls. Mark Darrah, executive producer on Anthem, added it’s not just the structure and delivery of Anthem’s story that will influnce fuuture games, but also its depth.

“One of the things that we’ve really done in Anthem is focus a lot of attention on Tarsis,” he said. “It’s the primary place where we do the reactive storytelling.

“As a result we’ve pushed Tarsis further than we’ve ever pushed any of our hubs before. It’s a reactive space, a space that feels more living, more alive. And I think going forward with future Dragon Age games, or others games, that you’re going to see that reactivity, that depth in our hubs that we’re bringing out in Anthem.”

Doesn't sound like a bad thing. I quite enjoyed the first Mass Effect letting me wander about at my leisure, aboard the Normandy and the Citadel and elsewhere.
