My parents router is on the way out so they're looking at a new one. Their current setup is Virgin Media Hub in Modem Only mode connected to an Asus RT-N56, though they often have issues with weak WiFi upstairs in the house as the router is down in the living room. I keep putting it ontop of the table but they keep putting it "out of the way" and down onto the floor in a bit of a 3ftx3ft space between the sofa, wall and footstool.
So I'm thinking they may benefit from a Mesh WiFi setup to get better coverage upstairs. One unit connected to the modem in the living room then, depending on if its a 2 or 3 node setup, one node in the hallway and then a third upstairs, or the third just upstairs wherever has the best signal.

I'm trying to get a setup for under £150, so Google Mesh is out. I've found a couple on Amazon, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with them, or alternative recommendations,

TP-Link Deco M5 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi System, Up to 5500 sq ft Coverage, Compatible with Amazon Echo/Alexa, Antivirus Security Protection and Parental Controls, Pack of 3 - £149.50 (Reduced from £239.99)

NETGEAR Orbi Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi - £129.99 (Only a 2 pack)

ASUS Lyra Mini Complete Home Wi-Fi Mesh System Dual-band - £143.17 (Again a 2 pack)

BT Whole Home Wi-Fi - £119.98 (Reduced from £149.99 but again, only a 2 pack)

I'm leaning towards the TP-Link one, from what I've heard their reputation has gotten quite a bit better in the last few years, plus it's a 3 node setup so will probably have a better signal. The units are also pretty small and easy to keep discreet.

I have that TP-Link Deco. Works great. If your parents are with VM then I am pretty sure that VM offer a mesh like system for their Hub 3.0/SuperHub v3: https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2 ... -wifi.html

They've only got a Hub 2 since they've had it a while and are just on the 150Mbps package.

Doubt VM will replace it unless they upgrade their package or the Hub 2 goes tits up.

Fair enough. Well I've had that Deco since May and it was super easy to set up and I've no issues with it at all. I live in a huge old house and while before getting the Deco I didn't suffer from any dead spots, I did "only" get a medium strength signal in the living room and a very weak signal in the kitchen. The Deco improved it to a strong signal throughout the house.

Cheers.
It is the one most tempting me as it's at a reduced price, plus it's a 3 pack so will probably be good for the best signal strength.

I have heard very good things about the BT ones, it's only really the fact it's a 2 pack that's holding me back. Though the 3 pack is only £15 more than the TP-Link one.

I have Orbi (but not the one in your link) and it's brilliant. The one you've linked to is recommended for users with only a 50mbps internet connection (the next model up is for up to 200mbps), so it looks like you wouldn't get the best benefit out of your parents' connection.

Ended up ordering the TP-Link set up in the end.

Another positive is that the app doesn't bombard your phone with alerts, etc. (I think I've had about 10 in total since putting the mesh in, and that includes system updates.)

Well I'll be setting it up by installing the app on my phone, but I won't be connected to the network unless I actually go to my parents house so I doubt I'll even get that many alerts

I owned TP-link router with three antina and its work superb. It placed on my lying room but it cover my whole house with full signals. I am using it for last too years and its worth but for me. I used online shopping Coupons to save some of my money. Now I am planning to setup whole my office networking new with TP-links modem, routers and wifi.
