PostAnything Can Be a Kart Racer | Article Now Published
by DarkRula » Fri Jun 16, 2023 10:01 pm

The article is now published, having looked into the ideas provided and worked with the themes of those properties to create a kart racer based on it. Then did the same for GRcade. Read on and see what you think.
___________

For me, July is Racing Month over on my site, and in recent times I've felt that anything can be turned into a kart racer. So this year, I'm going to put that to the test. However, it would be easy for me to pick franchises I'm familiar with so I'm opening this up to all of you.

For selections, go as crazy as you want. The only firm rule is that anything that has previously seen a kart racer made for it will not be chosen. That means the likes of M&Ms, Garfield, and the Crazy Frog are disallowed. As a guide, though I won't hold anyone to it, there needs to enough material to work with as a base for this kart racer. It'd be very awkward if I can't even reach 8 characters and three track themes, though I definitely will give it a go.

Oh, and also there's no point in choosing Animal Crossing as I've already done it.

I'm excited for Fallout Racer!

So many cool characters from across the franchise, and the Fallout Boy 50s vibe would be fun to use in the race setup and result screens. Just from F76 I'm thinking of tracks base around the Ash Heap, Toxic Valley and the Savage Divide.

Fawkes from Fallout 3 would be my driver of choice  . Dang, I actually want to see this game in action now!

SNK Cart

Marco from Metal, the Bogarts from Fatal Fury, Galford and Hanzo from Samuari Showdown, Kim Dragon and Rasputin from World Heroes, and Robert Garcia from Art Of Fighting

you could have a metal slug track, a beast busters based track, a Fedual Japan Samurai Showdown track etc

From the little reading I've done, it seems some characters can turn their spiritual power into forms of energy, which could possibly be used as the game's items. Would definitely make for an awesome kart racer with how long it's been going.

I can definitely see how this could fit into a kart racer just from a small read about it. Each location in the game has unique characteristics, multiple characters, and I can think of two things I would do regarding the items. One of which utilises those Heat Actions of the series.

I had a feeling you'd be asking for Fallout, jawa. And it could make for a good kart racer. Plenty of characters to include, can get very apocalypse-inspired for the karts, and there's a lot of things that can be used for items. Could even get a bit of base-building in there to improve your kart.

Drawing inspiration from a company's properties does allow a lot to draw inspiration from. Opens things up to allow popular and obscure characters and locations. One thing I could see is giving each franchise featured a unique item only available to characters of that franchise.

Some good options so far. Really giving me things to think about.

I love that base-building mention... maybe there could be a garage to drive to and bolt on power-ups for your kart? Now that would be neat, Rula!

This one is difficult, I'll admit that. Part of it stems from not wanting to be controversial, the other being there's not a lot to pull from without a lot of reaching. Sure, it has enough characters, but the track themes are likely to be limited. And the items... I guess it depends on how the theming of the overall game is handled.

I can picture this one being like a Chibi-Robo racing game crossed with Robot Wars, where you build a roomba to take onto the track that can only pick up certain items from the floor. Create an attacker, defender, or mix of the two as you race around various buildings.

A WWE racing game released a few years ago, and it looks kinda neat. But they're all on bikes to allow for some wrestling takedowns. And it's a free-to-play mobile game. Not really a kart racer as I'd do it, then. There'd still be takedowns, but in the form of energy-based items utilising the item system from All-Star Fruit Racing.

A quick look, and the funny thing is, there was supposed to be a kart racer based on the first film on the Dreamcast. Developed by Rockstar. Apparently cancelled because they couldn't fit the humour into it. I'm sure that wouldn't prove an issue these days. A comical run through the plot of all three movies in the form of a racing game. Think Sonic Riders but with more free love.

Tetris.

You start the race as one single block, but as you race you can collect other shapes and make your kart bigger, faster and stronger.

This also works with a Daft Punk kart game.

Love that you tried to consider this seriously

Think the controversy is inevitable as soon as a race starts and the announcer says "step on the gas!"
