APB: Reloaded 'Closed Beta' Details

New details for the previously reported upcoming February "closed beta" for APB: Reloaded have been revealed on the game's blog, listing a number of the requirements expected from those who plan on walking the renovated streets of San Paro.

While some of the requirements are standard (submit your email address for information at the game's official site and sign up for an account at Gamersfirst.com), others are a little more detailed. "...You will be asked to submit a lot of additional data, among other things your DxDiag (if you don't know that is, then you might not be a great closed beta candidate) and some additional information about you, as well as about your system and your own background as a gamer," the post notes.

According to the post, about 20,000 users have registered for information on the beta and developer Reloaded Productions expects "about 10%-20% of players who sign up for the email notification will in fact fulfill all our closed beta registration requirements." The goal for the beta, the post reads, is to have approximately 6000-8000 confirmed players with an expected user count of 800 users online at "peak times."

The beta will test a number of changes made to the game since APB first went "dormant," including new balance and progression systems as well as the addition of "Vivox voice over IP libraries."

During the beta players will create "throw-away accounts," meaning no existing accounts from the previous version of the game will be carried over during the testing phase. Players will be able to reclaim original APB content (characters, for example) giving players access to "most (if not all)" customizations, gear and character names. The game's newly assigned developer is attempting to give players access to "lost and found" items from old accounts during the beta, but that has not been confirmed as of yet.

Well, whilst the on-foot controls are fairly responsive, the driving controls have a weird lag, which makes handling them challenging.

Also, the menu system is very obtuse and counter-intuitive, it took me a long time to work out what I was carrying and what my stats are. Also, I spent about 10 minutes trying to figure out how to change my clothing after buying some, and it turns out you have to go to a whole other area of the game, find a "clothes terminal" before you can put on a t-shirt. This isn't helped by the achingly long load times between areas.

Anyone looking for a solo experience will be disappointed. You are auto-grouped to deal with objectives over a large open area, which can lead to a great deal of lag in built-up areas, it is essentially team skirmishes, there are no solo missions apart from the uber-noob tutorial.

It didn't help that I got owned fairly consistently, everyone seems to hang out in cheese spots to take you out as you defend objectives (I chose the quasi-vigilante cop faction), making it hard to actually win, as such I was less than enthusiastic. Will keep it installed and will give it another go, but may have to turn down some gfx settings, as it did chug slightly.

Another issue is that as it's gone microtransaction, you get the nagging paranoia that everyone else has bought the uber-gear, making you essentially incapable of killing anyone. I think I got taken down about 15 times, for a grand total of 1 kill.

Oh, the downloader also uses pando media booster, so be sure to uninstall it once you've got the client, or else it makes use of your bandwidth to seed the client for other people, jus' sayin'.

Guess what guys?

APB Reloaded is now on Steam as a full Steamworks title! The game now downloads from Steam (instead of Realtime Worlds' shitty server) and there are 50 Steam achievements to collect. All for free.

I thought this game was completely dead. I might try it now that it's on Steam(and free).

Just don't, it's not worth the download time.

I was going to give this a download to see how it's changed, probably won't bother now. Pity as I quite liked the look and idea of it back when they first showed it off.
