Fully engaged with this now. No idea how long it'll stick but I currently can't stop thinking about it.

I read into that two ways. They have nothing to to talk about because it isn’t happening, or they have nothing to talk about because it will be revealed in the Nintendo direct later today.

Yup! It's a genuinely great feeling when a game surprises me like this. I have no interest in the BR genre, I was super pissed that there's no Titanfall 3 incoming and still the game won me over.

It's brill! :D

I've seen people *already* dismiss Apex Legends because "EA", "free to play", "no wallrunning" or "no titans". Doesn't matter that the studio hasn't put out a game yet that wasn't brilliant, or that the staff has a long history of making world class shooters.

Been thinking about this post a lot this past week.

I'm hoping some people can learn lessons about kneejerk reactions and brainless dogpiling.

I guess people can enjoy this and still be disappointed that Titanfall 3 isn't a thing.

I have yet to play this, so can't judge.

So who is everyone playing in this?

I play Wraith, Bloodhound and Lifeline

I'd really like to play Mirage but he is not very good right now, how ultimate especially is garbage.

If I can suggest encouraging dropping you into the hit zone for a few games. Accept that they will be over quickly, but you're gaining much more valuable game-winning combat experience than 30 minutes of skulking around.

Don't underestimate the power of meleeing someone to death at the beginning either (takes 4 hits - 30 damage per hit).

I think I need at least one lucky good game to encourage me. So far it’s been nothing but demoralising failure.

So I was saying...

First game back in, usual disaster. Next game... only bloody well won! Heart pounding, insane excitement. THIS makes the defeats worthwhile. I think I might retire now.

I mean, this.

Battle Royales and FtP games have become the face of the increasing monetisation and commodification of video games. Considering the previous iteration of this franchise was the exact opposite, a highly crafted and curated single-player experience, there's absolutely no reason to think people's misgivings were anything but justified.

But I do like the image of jiggles sat in his parlour, perhaps ensconced in a velveteen smoking jacket, mulling over his own posts. Every now and then, he swirls the brandy glass held clawlike in his weathered hand. Upon reaching the end of his latest post he pauses, chuckling, and strokes the snow white cat purring on his lap.

"Oh you poor fools..." he muses, before hitting refresh and beginning his perusal once more.

Currently I'm trying to get the 'win with every character' achievement, and have done Lifeline, Caustic and Bloodhound. Working on Bangalore right now.

Lifeline's the best though.

Seem to be having the most success with Lifeline probably because she's the most straight forward to use.

I mean, I might have seen what you were getting at, maybe even engaged in a conversation about it, had your post not been so patronisingly supercilious.

But it was. And here we are!

Anyway.

Like most people I started with Lifeline, mainly as I play support in general but she's definitely the easiest to get a handle on. Now though, I've gone back to my Titanfall 2 days with Pathfinder. The grapple is suuuuper useful for getting you out of trouble, and the map function is a real gamechanger.

Bangalore's smoke grenade is ridiculously good though.

Caustic is great if you spend a lot of time inside by the way. Those gas traps just seem to cause people massive amounts of panic, they don't do that much damage but seem to ruin co-ordination in the best of squads.

I imagine he will be a popular pick if they release a solo mode.

Yeah, I really want a go at the two unlockables but I think I have about 5000 Apex Bucks (or whatever) at the moment so yeah...there's a while to go.

I was lucky, they give you like 1000 premium credits for being an EA Access member so that paid for one straight off the bat.

IIRC, in Quake Champions their in-game currency only let you "rent" a character for three days. Are these permanent unlocks?

Yup! Everything you can purchase with real cash can be unlocked through play.

I only just figured out that "crafting materials" are the currency for cosmetics. Gonna unlock me that Pathfinder unicorn skin!

That's good, I'll save up and get those characters unlocked then!
