Today Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) and Respawn Entertainment launched Apex Legends™, a free-to-play* battle royale shooter available right now on Origin for PC, PlayStation®4 and Xbox One. Set in the Titanfall™ universe, Apex Legends shakes up the battle royale genre with a cast of unique characters, squad-based gameplay, innovative mechanics and more.

Apex Legends delivers a squad-based battle royale experience with a uniquely Respawn flavor. Players will select from one of eight Legends - each with their own unique abilities and playstyles - and the last team standing wins. Combatants can choose from unique characters like Bloodhound, the tracker who can see recent enemy activity on the map, or Lifeline, a battlefield medic who can shield teammates and bring them back from the brink of death. Balanced squads and teamwork are critical, as each Legend is easy to pick up and learn, but challenging to master.

The first season of Apex Legends is scheduled to kick off in March and will give players the opportunity to purchase a Battle Pass to gain access to exclusive cosmetic items earned through gameplay. Apex Legendswill follow a seasonal model with each themed season bringing new content to the game in the form of new weapons, new Legends, new skins and more.

Just watched a bit of the stream. Notable things: Team leader launches the whole team together. Your team can rescue you after death and resurrect you at a respawn device thing.

For anyone that's looking for it on the UK PSN store, it's in the free-to-play category. Couldn't find it just by searching.

What was once Titanfall 3 has become Apex Legends, the free-to-play battle royale game that launched today. In other words, a third Titanfall is not currently in development, despite the critical acclaim for the first two.

EDIT: This has made me, irrationally or not, strawberry floating furious. Sometimes this industry really can go strawberry float itself.

EDIT2: To clarify this, my anger stems mostly from the way this has been presented.

REspawn confirmed in 2017 that Titanfall 3 was in the works. This news was reconfirmed in late 2018, as stated in the Kotaku article above. Then we hear about TF3 having been cancelled/refitted, literally as its replacement launches, and Respawn cough up some PR bullshit trying desperately to paste over the huge elephant shaped hole in the room.

This stinks of Cloverfield Paradox "getting ahead of the story" nonsense. With that film, its release on Netflix was announced the day before as it was rotten and they wanted to avoid marketing a film they knew was a stinker. With this, news that TF3 became a titan-free FtP battle-royale was announced after it was released. This isn't 'letting the players discover the game,' this is a PR strategy to avoid the inevitable backlash the news would otherwise have had.

The game may be strawberry floating excellent, but this is some straight up shady-ass marketing twattery.

I liked the Cloverfield Paradox, despite its flaws. Once they were in space and the weirdness kicked in it stopped being overly derivative and did its own thing.
